Manchester City want Jean-Michael Seri, Liverpool consider Nick Pope and may land Mario Gotze, and Jack Grealish may join Tottenham Hotspur. It's Sunday's Paper Round....

City consider Seri transfer

Manchester City's move for Jorginho might be falling through. City are interested in a midfielder because they need to replace Yaya Toure, whose contract expired at the end of the season. According to the Mirror, they had wanted the 26-year-old Italian midfielder, but his club Napoli are refusing to budge on their £60m asking price. Jean-Michael Seri, also 26, who plays for Nice, is available for £36m.

Paper Round's view: Seri and Jorginho play slightly different roles, but given City barely used Toure last season, they don't need a like-for-like replacement in order to keep their squad strong for another season in the Premier League and the Champions League. Given the World Cup is fast approaching, and the transfer window is shorter than last season, getting business done quickly, as opposed to perfectly, might be the best option.

Liverpool to look to Burnley's Pope

The Sun report that Liverpool have found a potential replacement for their goalkeeping position. They are eyeing Burnley's goalkeeper Nick Pope. The 26-year-old England international is on his way to the World Cup, and displaced Tom Heaton at his club. However, with two years left on his contract, and as Heaton returns to full fitness, Liverpool think they might be able to prise him away from the club for £15m.

Paper Round's view: Pope showed an unexpected maturity and consistency when he was called upon by Burnley to cover for Heaton. He showed no little talent, and deserves his chance to go to Russia. However, he has only competed at the top level for half a season. While £15m might represent something of a bargain, it also makes assumptions on Pope's consistency and mentality that he might not be able to match over the long term.

Grealish set to move on

HMRC have not given Aston Villa a winding-up order after their financial difficulties, but it does not mean that everything is plain sailing for the Midlands club now. That means that Villa need to raise funds, and one way to do that would be to let Jack Grealish go. According to Sky Sports, Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham are both looking at the 22-year-old, and scouts from both Manchester United and Arsenal have watched him in the past.

Paper Round's view: Grealish has shown the potential that suggests that he can be an exciting, dangerous and confident player down the wings or through the middle. At 22, he is still young, but realistically he cannot afford to spend too much longer in The Championship in order to maximise his potential. While Aston Villa's situation means they might receive lowball offers, it is hard to see how else they find themselves back into the black.

Gotze open to Liverpool move

Borussia Dortmund playmaker Mario Gotze has left the door open for a transfer to Liverpool. Gotze turned down the chance to link up with him in 2016 when he left Bayern Munich, instead rejoining Borussia Dortmund, but he has said a move remains a possibility. The Independent quotes him as saying: "It's still existing. He is a world-class coach and that's why it's always an option. I decided to join Borussia Dortmund, but it was not a decision against Liverpool or Jurgen Klopp."

Paper Round's view: Gotze is a wonderful player, and this news might be coming at just the right time for Liverpool. According to reports, Lyon have called off negotiations with the Anfield club for Nabil Fekir, meaning Liverpool might now prefer to look at other players rather than take another run at the Frenchman. Stoke's Xherdan Shaqiri is a bargain option, but Gotze could be affordable as Borussia are often willing to sell at the right price.
