Real Madrid prepare huge Neymar offer

Real Madrid are considering a huge offer for Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar. The Brazilian international has a £263m release clause, which kicks in the day after the summer transfer window closes.
However, Florentino Perez is not willing to wait for a deal to be done in the winter, and is apparently going to offer the French club £307m to bring forward a deal for the 26-year-old striker.

Paper Round's view: £307m for a striker, however talented he is, seems like a bizarre move from Perez. Real Madrid have Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale already, and while the forward line needs refreshing, they also have an ageing defence, could use a better goalkeeper, and might well be helped by new midfielders, too. It's little wonder Zinedine Zidane has gone if Perez's old attitude to squad building is coming back.

Liverpool's Fekir move in doubt

Liverpool may now not sign Lyon's Nabil Fekir. The 24-year-old had been expected to join Liverpool on the Friday after a medical was carried out, but an unspecified worry over the results from the examination have held up the deal. A £52m deal was supposedly on the verge of completion. France will soon be on their way to Russia for the World Cup, and there is speculation over a problem with Fekir's right knee, which suffered a severe injury a few years ago.

Paper Round's view: If Liverpool are really getting ready to spend £52m on a player, then they should be absolutely confident that the player can stand up to the demands of the Premier League. With Danny Ings and other players, they have already suffered significantly with player injuries under Jurgen Klopp. Of course, there is also the chance that Liverpool are just using any method they can do drive down the transfer fee.

Bilbao plot Herrera return

Athletic Bilbao are interested in bringing back Ander Herrera from Manchester United. However, Athletic almost certainly could not afford the transfer fee needed to get Manchester United to release him, and Jose Mourinho would require a hefty sum in order to make sure he could find a replacement. That means there's more likelihood that the Basque club will wait for the 28-year-old to become available on a free at the end of the season.

Paper Round's view: Athletic have to be careful with their spending, because there are few players they are allowed to field. That means bargain hunting is hard for them to do. Herrera is out of favour at Old Trafford, and now faces competition from the arrival of Fred in midfield. While many Basque players feel an affinity for their regional clubs, he would be denying himself on last big deal that he could secure on a free transfer.

Spurs to offer Alli and Eriksen new deals

Tottenham Hotspur are looking to build on the new contracts signed by Mauricio Pochettino and Harry Kane. The 24-year-old England international signed a six-year deal that is worth up to £200,000-a-week in order to stay in North London, and Pochettino's deal indicates he will be around for at least one more year. The high wages for Kane indicate both Eriksen and Alli could be granted significant wage increases.

Paper Round's view: While it will dramatically increase the spending at White Hart Lane, increasing the wages for Kane, Eriksen and Alli means the club don't have to scramble to replace some of the best talent in the world, and certainly in the Premier League. Spurs have a new ground and the broadcast rights keep raising the funds available to Premier League clubs. New deals would maintain the stability of the club at a vital time.
