Everton substitute Oumar Niasse scored with his first touch to salvage a 1-1 draw against West Bromwich Albion but Saturday's game was overshadowed when their Ireland midfielder James McCarthy suffered a double leg break in the second half.

McCarthy, whose season has been blighted by injury, left the pitch in tears, and was replaced by Wayne Rooney and taken to hospital before Senegalese substitute Niasse came on to volley the equaliser in the 70th for mid-table Everton, leaving West Brom second bottom.
Sam Allardyce confirmed the break after the match: "It's a tibular and fibular fracture compounded. A very nasty injury.
"He's paid a heavy price for his bravery and commitment. It's a big blow for him and us.
"It’s a loss to us from now until the end of the season, it happens in the game of football but not often that severe.

"It was our own fault and our own stupid play in that area, James recovered brilliantly to stop a goal but suffered because of it."
27-year-old McCarthy sustained the serious leg injury after the interval as he tried to prevent West Brom's Salomon Rondon from shooting.
Rondon flagged down the referee as soon as he realised the extent of the injury, and had to be comforted by teammates as he began to cry.
West Brom went ahead when Jay Rodriguez slotted the ball past goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in the seventh minute after Polish midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak struck a sublime pass in behind the defence with the outside of his right foot.
Everton, who fielded new signing Theo Walcott from Arsenal, equalised courtesy of substitute Oumar Niasse on a day when football didn't really matter.
