Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake scored an injury-time goal against a Tottenham team that had two men sent off to put a dent in the top-four hopes of Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Ake nodded home after Spurs had managed to keep the match goalless at the Vitality Stadium despite having Heung-min Son and Juan Foyth sent off either side of half-time.
Before that, 19-year-old Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers had made a series of smart saves in the first half.
Bournemouth were also unfortunate not to be awarded a penalty before the break when Eric Dier, who had already been booked, brought down Callum Wilson.
It means Tottenham – who face Ajax in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final on Wednesday – are just four points ahead of fifth-placed Arsenal, who have a game in hand, before their last match against Everton next weekend.

TALKING POINT

Spurs twice shoot themselves in the foot. This was another wasted opportunity for Tottenham and that their wounds were self-inflicted will make it tougher to take. Son’s red card was soft - he didn’t make any contact with Lerma’s face or head - but pushing him right in front of the referee was foolish and out of character. Foyth’s tackle wasn’t malicious, but it was reckless and he can have few complaints. Craziest of all is that is could have been worse for Tottenham, with Dier committing three bookable offences in the first half but staying on the pitch.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Mark Travers (Bournemouth). The 19-year-old had a Premier League debut to remember, pulling off a string of impressive saves early on to keep Spurs at bay. He was a spectator in the second half but still the Cherries' standout performer.

KEY MOMENTS

8’ - CLOSE! Lucas dispossesses Lerma inside his own half but sees Travers off his line and drills the ball towards goal. The young goalkeeper is beaten but can breathe a huge sigh of relief as the ball fizzes just wide.
20’ - SAVE! A lovely Tottenham move sees Sissoko play in Lucas, who takes a great first touch to get the ball out from under his feet and then produces a fine save from Travers, who tips over the bar.
25’ - SAVE! Lucas beats the offside trap, takes a long pass down brilliantly and then shoots from a tight angle but is again denied by Travers!
34’ - NO SECOND YELLOW? As Bournemouth break from a Spurs corner, Dier makes a lunging tackle, doesn’t get the ball and Bournemouth want him to be given a second yellow. It looks at first that the referee agrees, but in fact he doesn't even give a free-kick. The home fans aren't happy.
44’ - RED CARD! Son has been sent off! There's some afters between Son and Lerma and Son pushes the Bournemouth man over, he rolls around on the floor and Son is promptly sent off! No complaints from him.
48’ - RED CARD! Foyth is sent off having only just come on! He takes a heavy touch, slides in to try and redeem the situation and as he does his right foot goes up in the air. He didn't really catch Simpson, but that didn't look pretty.
90+1’ - GOAL! Bournemouth 1-0 Tottenham (Ake). The Dutchman powers a header home from close range from another corner and Bournemouth finally have the breakthrough!
