Everton struck twice in a dramatic finale to sink Crystal Palace 2-0 and move up to eighth in the Premier League table.
The Blues had looked set to settle for a share of the spoils after Jordan Pickford saved Luka Milivojevic's penalty on the hour.
But Marco Silva's substitutions proved key as Ademola Lookman crossed for Dominic Calvert-Lewin to break the deadlock with a header three minutes from the end, before Cenk Tosun raced clear to rifle in a second soon after.
It was harsh on the Eagles who had defended with great discipline, and Roy Hodgson will feel they had the better of the chances with Cheikhou Kouyaté seeing a first-half header crash back off the crossbar.
Everton have now won three league matches in a row for the first time since the start of 2017 and look to be on an upward trajectory. In contrast Palace have only tasted victory in one of their last eight outings in the top-flight and lie 15th, just two points above the drop zone.
Next up, Everton visit Manchester United while Palace host Arsenal on Sunday.
TALKING POINT.
Everton late show provides Silva-lining. Marco Silva will feel Everton are moving in the right direction despite long spells of frustration against Palace. The Blues welcomed back Seamus Coleman from injury while Andre Gomes made his long-awaited league bow. Players are getting fit, beginning to gel and slowly adapting to the new manager's methods. Improving results always help and the Toffees faithful seem more content with life under Silva than when Sam Allardyce was at the helm, particularly when the manager makes such game-clinching substitutions. As for Palace, results just aren't quite happening. Zaha remains vital to their ambitions for the season, but it may get tougher before it gets better for the Eagles who face Arsenal (h), Chelsea (a), Spurs (h) and Manchester United (a) in their next four matches. Scoring goals seems to be a real problem and missing penalties won't help a side who have scored just five in the PL so far this term.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Jordan Pickford (Everton). Continues to enhance his reputation with some safe hands at the back. Made some routine saves as well as a crucial block from the spot at 0-0 that gave his side the platform to go on and nick the points.
