Football news - Unai Emery: Arsenal can only make loan signings in January
Unai Emery says Arsenal do not have the funds for a permanent signing in January and will have to be content with loan deals.
Arsenal supporters had been calling for fresh investment this winter after the club lost Danny Welbeck and Rob Holding to long-term injuries – and with the battle for a top-four place growing ever more competitive.
But owner Stan Kroenke has not made funds available with Emery revealing that loan deals will be the limit of their ambition.
“We can’t sign with payment, we can only loan players in this window,” Emery confirmed.
Arsenal have been linked with a move for Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez, a player who worked under Emery during his time at Sevilla.
It has been suggested that with Arsenal unable to match his reported £10m asking price, Suarez could initially join on loan with a view to a permanent deal.

Emery was non-committal when asked about his former player in his press conference on Thursday.
" I don’t know his situation now. We can only sign players later on. I know the club is working on possibilities of which players can help us with big performances like we need now."
One player leaving Arsenal is Aaron Ramsey, with the midfielder reportedly striking a deal to join Juventus at the end of the season on a free transfer. Emery would only say that Ramsey is currently committed to playing well for Arsenal.
" I asked in the last match at Blackpool if he is okay to help us play and he said, ‘Yeah, coach, I want to play' and he played with a very big behaviour and commitment to us. After, his future belongs to him, his family and agent. Every day he’s here with us, he’s working very well. I want his behaviour and his focus to be on West Ham on Saturday."
