Captain Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw gave Manchester United a 2-1 victory over Leicester City as Jose Mourinho's side made a winning start to their Premier League campaign.
Pogba, after being handed the armband by Mourinho, responded by converting a penalty in just the third minute of the match after a bizarre run-up.
Shaw was the surprising man to double United's lead in the 83rd minute as he scored his first career goal to delight the Old Trafford faithful.
Jamie Vardy came off the substitutes' bench to grab a consolation goal in stoppage time but it was a winning start for United after a frustrating summer on the transfer front.

TALKING POINT

Not convincing but United get started with a victory: This was far from a vintage performance from Manchester United but after all that has happened over the summer months, only the result mattered for under pressure Mourinho. There has been a dark cloud hanging over the club and their supporters after a frustrating transfer window and some disappointing pre-season results, but United have started the campaign with a win and some impressive individual performances to boot. Shaw, so often publicly criticised by his manager, was fantastic at full-back alongside Eric Bailly who silenced his critics with a convincing showing in the heart of defence. And Pogba thrived with the responsibility as captain.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Paul Pogba (Man United): Amid growing speculation the World Cup winner is unhappy at Old Trafford, Mourinho handed the Frenchman the captain's armband in the absence of Antonio Valencia, and how his decision was rewarded. Pogba was everywhere on the pitch, from winning headers at corners to supplying the front-line with defence-splitting passes. And what about that penalty? Simply brilliant.

KEY MOMENTS

2' - PENALTY TO UNITED! After just 75 seconds, we have our first moment of drama in the Premier League! Amartey is adjudged to have blocked Sanchez's shot with his arm.
3' - GOAL! Manchester United 1-0 Leicester: And we have lift-off! It's coolness personified as Pogba steps up and lifts the ball into the top right corner. Schmeichel goes the right way but cannot get near it.
29' - SHOT! And now Maddison almost scores his side's equaliser! He resists the temptation to make a run to the near post to meet Ricardo's cross, instead he remains rooted to the penalty spot and when he receives the pass his first instinct is to shoot. De Gea makes a fine save and United scramble it behind for a corner.
78' - GREAT SAVE! United have a great chance to put the game to bed but Lukaku fluffs his lines! Sanchez rolls the ball across to the Belgian who only needs to beat Schmeichel but the Denmark international makes himself big, blocking the shot and deflecting it over the bar.
83' - GOAL! Manchester United 2-0 Leicester: Shaw scores his first EVER career goal! And what a lovely goal it is. He latches onto Mata's switched pass, dinks it over his marker before guiding a left-footed shot into the bottom corner. It clinches the points for Manchester United. Relief all around Old Trafford.
90'+3' - GOAL! Manchester United 2-1 Leicester: Game on? Vardy is off the mark to make things interesting! Ricardo comes in off the left and sends a cross to the back post where Vardy cushions a header past a helpless De Gea.
