Son Heung-min scored a wonder goal and set up another for Dele Alli as Tottenham beat Leicester 2-0 to climb into third place in the Premier League table.
Mauricio Pochettino, who benched Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen with one eye on Tuesday’s must-win game at Barcelona, saw his side edge the first half but fail to create any clear-cut chances for 45 minutes.
That was until Son scored in stoppage time with a sumptuous curling shot from 25 yards after cutting inside.
Alli was the visitors’ most creative spark and he was rewarded in the second period when he dived in to score with a header from Son’s cross.
Claude Puel brought on Rachid Ghezzal, Marc Albrighton and Shinji Okazaki but his side were largely toothless up front with Jamie Vardy out injured.
And Pochettino gave Eriksen and Kane a run out in the closing stages as Spurs closed out the game to record back-to-back wins this week to trail leaders Liverpool by six points ahead of the showdown at the Nou Camp.

TALKING POINT

Are Spurs back in the title race? Pochettino’s side have responded well to their north London derby disappointment with victories over Southampton and now the Foxes. With Man City losing, the title race has widened up and Spurs have a decent-looking run of games against Burnley, Everton, Bournemouth and Wolves over the Christmas period.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Son Heung-min (Tottenham): The South Korean just edges out Dele Alli after scoring a wonderful strike to bring the game to life. He also showed his composure to set up Alli’s header.
