That's a brilliant win for Newcastle, their first in the league since before Christmas. They defended heroically throughout, limiting to Chelsea to only a few clear chances, and then nicked two extra points in added time.

Newcastle 1-0 Chelsea That's it!
- GoalIsaac HaydenNewcastle United
GOAL!!!! Newcastle 1-0 Chelsea (Hayden) Newcastle have won the match in the last minute of injury time! Isaac Hayden headed in from close range to send St James' Park into ecstasy. A corner was half cleared to Saint-Maximin on the left. He drove a deep, angled cross that cleared all the Chelsea defenders but not Hayden, who headed it through Kepa from close range.
Four added minutes. In the first of them, Hudson-Odoi blazes over the bar from 20 yards.
Emerson's dangerous cross is brilliantly cleared by Clark, sliding towards his own goal.
Chance for Joelinton! Almiron's driven cross was touched back by Saint-Maximin to Joelinton, who sliced well wide from 12 yards. That was a decent chance.
Hudson-Odoi wins a corner for Chelsea, who are pushing hard for a winner. It's played short to Barkley, whose deflected cross bounces dangerously across the area before being cleared by Matty Longstaff.
- OffJonjo ShelveyNewcastle United
- OnMatthew LongstaffNewcastle United
Newcastle substitution: Matty Longstaff replaces Shelvey.
- Yellow cardEmerson PalmieriChelsea
Emerson is booked for diving in the area.
Willian's low cross is cleared only as far as Emerson, who whistles a beautiful rising drive from 25 yards that goes this far wide of the far post. It must have taken a slight deflection off a Newcastle player because Chelsea have a corner. It's headed away by the superb Lascelles.
- OffTammy AbrahamChelsea
- OnMichy BatshuayiChelsea
Chelsea substitution: Batshuayi replaces Abraham.
Ritchie clears off the line! Jorginho's pass was headed down by Azpilicueta towards Abraham, who improvised to kung-fu kick the bouncing ball towards goal from eight yards. It was partially blocked by the outrushing keeper Dubravka, but would have spun into the net were it for not for Ritchie's clearance.
This is a good spell for Chelsea, with Newcastle again pinned back in their own half.
- OffReece JamesChelsea
- OnEmerson PalmieriChelsea
Chelsea substitution: James is unable to continue. Emerson replaces him, with Azpilicueta moving to right-back.
Chance for Chelsea! Sean Longstaff, attempting to intercept Jorginho's pass, accidentally diverts the ball into the Newcastle area. Abraham reacts quickest to pick up the loose ball and dance around Dubravka, only to slice the ball wide from a tight angle.
James is back on the field for Chelsea.
- OffEmil KrafthNewcastle United
- OnSean LongstaffNewcastle United
Newcastle substitution: Sean Longstaff replaces Emil Krafth.
Reece James is down, having landed awkwardly on his shoulder after a challenge with Clark.
- OffMason MountChelsea
- OnRoss BarkleyChelsea
Chelsea substitution: Ross Barkley replaces Mason Mount.
Jorginho has a long-range shot headed away from Clark. Chelsea have really struggled to get behind the excellent Newcastle defence.
Newcastle are coming back into the game, with Saint-Maximin looking livelier after a sluggish first half.
Hudson-Odoi's cutback is volleyed over by Abraham at the near post. It was a difficult chance, but this is much better from Chelsea.
Kepa makes his first save of the match, plunging to his right to stop Shelvey's long-range shot. It was a comfortable enough save.
Chelsea are starting to turn the screw. Kante has a long-range shot that is comfortably saved by Dubravka.
- Yellow cardIsaac HaydenNewcastle United
Hayden is booked for a foul on the increasingly influential Mason Mount.
Make that two shots on target: Azpilicueta hits a sweet strike from 25 yards that is well held by Dubravka.
There has been one shot on target in the entire match, that effort from Kante in the first half that was beaten away by Dubravka.
Chance for Chelsea! Willian drags a shot wide of the far post from 15 yards after another dangerous break. Newcastle through Abraham had handled in the build-up, so it would have gone to VAR had Chelsea scored. I think it came off his chest anyway.
A good interception from Mount near the halfway line allows Chelsea to counter-attack dangerously. Abraham plays the ball back to Mount in the area, but Lascelles does well to shepherd him away from goal.
Willian runs across the line of the penalty area and hits a low shot that is blocked by Lascelles.
- 2nd Half
Peep peep! Newcastle begin the second half.
Half-time reading It was another bad day for Pep Guardiola.
- End of 1st Half
Newcastle 0-0 Chelsea Not the greatest half of football. Joelinton smacked the bar with a header and Dubravka made a good save from Kante, but that was about it.
Kante is lucky not to be booked for a shove on Almiron. Newcastle take the free-kick quickly and put Joelinton clear, but Chris Kavanagh pulls them back because the ball was moving.
Azpiliceuta's low cross is only cleared as far as Willian, whose mishit left-foot shot whistles across goal before being shanked behind for a corner by Ritchie.
There will be five minutes of added time because of the injury to Willems.
Chelsea have had the better of the play in the last 10 minutes, though it's still a mediocre game at best.
Mount's free-kick hits the outside of the wall and goes behind for a corner.
Almiron fouls Jorginho 25 yards from goal, to the right of centre. It looks like Mount fancies it.
At the other end Mount misses a half-chance for Chelsea, flicking a header over the bar from Hudson-Odoi's cross. He might have done better there.
Fernandez misses a good chance for Newcastle. Shelvey's dipping free-kick from deep on the right came towards him eight yards from goal, but he mistimed his jump and shouldered the ball over the bar.
The referee Chris Kavanagh wanders off to give Steve Agnew, one of the Newcastle coaching team, a telling-off.
Chance for Chelsea! James slides a fine pass behind the defence to find the onrushing Kante, whose shot from a tight angle is well blocked by Dubravka.
Abraham hits the bar with an ingenious close-range backflick from Kante's header, although he had been rightly flagged offside.
Newcastle are the better team at the moment.
Saint-Maximin scurries infield and tries to play a through ball to Almiron, who is cynically blocked by Rudiger. The referee doesn't see it. That probably should have been a free-kick and a yellow card. At the other end, Abraham shoots over the bar from distance.
James crosses towards Kante, who is shaping to volley at goal when Fernandez makes a good interception.
This is a fine spell for Newcastle, who are having plenty of joy down their right.
Actually, Kepa didn't get a touch on Joelinton's header. He pawed at the ball but it beat him for pace and smacked off the bar.
JOELINTON HITS THE BAR! That was a fine effort, a towering header from Fernandez's excellent cross that clattered off the bar. Kepa may have got a touch on it as well.
For all their possession, Chelsea have struggled to penetrate the Newcastle defence. It's a recurring problem against the lesser teams, which makes it surprising that they play 4-3-3 rather than 4-2-3-1.
Saint-Maximin gets his first chance to run at James. He cuts inside on his right foot, does a couple of stepovers ... and then blasts the ball miles wide of the far post.
Hayden is limping heavily, but I think he's going to continue for now.
Now Isaac Hayden is down injured after a challenge from Mount. This is ludicrous.
A half chance for Chelsea! Willian finds Mount just inside the area. He dances around a defender and flashes a cross-shot that goes right across the face of goal.
- OffJetro WillemsNewcastle United
- OnMatt RitchieNewcastle United
Substitution: Willems is stretchered off, his hands over his face, and Matt Ritchie comes on in his place.
Willems is still receiving treatment, and Matt Ritchie is getting ready to come on as substitute. It looks like the Newcastle injury curse has struck again. It is quite extraordinary how many injuries they have suffered in the past month.
Willems is down, clutching his knee, after a collision with Hudson-Odoi. This doesn't look great.
Chelsea have had around 70 per cent of the possession, which should surprise 0 per cent of those following the game. The pattern has been as expected. After another passing move, Azpilicueta hits a fierce long-range shot that is blocked just inside the area.
Mount's dipping corner from the left is missed by Rudiger at the near post and headed up in the air by Lascelles before Newcastle clear. That looked like a chance for Rudiger.
After some patient play on the right from Newcastle, Almiron's deep cross has too much height on it for Saint-Maximin to head back across goal.
A bit of early possession for Chelsea, but all in front of the Newcastle back three/five/nine.
- 1st Half
Peep peep! Chelsea kick off from left to right.
Here come the players. It's time for some association football.
This is quite a hard game to call. Newcastle look much stronger than in recent weeks, but Chelsea are excellent away from home. Prediction: Newcastle 1-3 Chelsea.
Chelsea have a terrific away record this season, with seven wins out of 11. Only Liverpool have taken more points away from home.
It's already been a decent day for Newcastle, with Norwich the only team in the bottom half of the table to win today.
Bundesliga news: Erling Braut Haaland scored a hat-trick on his Borussia Dortmund debut this afternoon - and he only came on in the second half.
Manchester City have drawn 2-2 with Crystal Palace at the Etihad. That means that, if Chelsea win tonight, they will move to within six points of City in second place.
No real surprises in either teams, though Newcastle will be very happy to have the dangerous Allan Saint-Maximin back from injury.
NEWCASTLE UNITED: Dubravka, Krafth, Fernandez, Lascelles, Clark, Willems, Almiron, Hayden, Shelvey, Saint-Maximin, Joelinton... Subs: Darlow, Schar, Lejeune, M Longstaff, Ritchie, Atsu, S Longstaff. /// CHELSEA: Kepa, James, Rudiger, Christensen, Azpilicueta, Kante, Jorginho, Mount, Hudson-Odoi, Abraham, Willian...
