And that's full-time!
It's a huge win for West Ham, who move within touching distance of safety. Watford are still deep in the mire and will have a nervy few days as they await Bournemouth and Aston Villa's matches. They remain three points clear of the drop...
- OffMichail AntonioWest Ham United
- OnFabián BalbuenaWest Ham United
Balbuena comes on for Antonio. A masterclass is running the clock down from the Hammers.
Fabianski catches a cross cleanly and he's certainly not in any rush to boot it upfield. When he eventually does, Antonio takes it to the corner flag.
Five minutes of added time for West Ham to endure...
Up the other end and Antonio is on a marauding run towards the Watford box. He reaches the edge of the box and shoots but it's blocked and Foster makes an easy save.
Sarr gets down the right again and crosses towards Gray but yet again there's a West Ham body there to clear it.
Diop is still upfield after a corner and is picked out by Declan Rice but his header is glanced wide.
Is that the chance for Watford?
Sarr gets down the right and puts in a fine ball. Gray misses it, as does Ogbonna. Perhaps because of the two players in front of it not making an impact, Welbeck doesn't react and it hits him and drifts over. A great chance.
Gray finds himself a yard of space in the West Ham box and looks to pick out Welbeck but it's blocked and West Ham survive.
West Ham have certainly regained control of this game now. They're deep in Watford territory and keep breaking up play effectively.
An absolute calamity from Watford there as Kabasele heads a lofted through ball straight to Haller, who almost catches Foster off his line. The back-peddling England keeper gets enough on it to put it out for a corner.
- OffPablo FornalsWest Ham United
- OnSébastien HallerWest Ham United
West Ham have made their first change - Haller coming on for Fornals. That will presumably see Antonio push out wide and the Frenchman play through the middle.
And that's time for a drink!
Will Watford not learn? The corner is cleared as far as Noble, who picks out Soucek with a loopy ball to the far post. This time the Czech's header is too weak to pick out a team-mate but surely they cannot keep leaving him unmarked.
Rice has a go from distance (after his goal, you would, wouldn't you?) but Dawson stands tall and deflects it behind for a corner.
- OffTroy DeeneyWatford
- OnAndre GrayWatford
Deeney comes off for Watford, having scored his side's first away goal in five months. Andre Gray comes on to replace him.
Bowen has been a key man for West Ham as they look to counter here. Again he dribbles his side out of danger, winning a throw for good measure and giving his defence time to reset.
We've seen Creswell bend many a free kick into the top corner over the years but he's not doing that here. Bowen is taken down just outside the box but the left-back's strike goes straight into the wall.
There's no doubt that Watford are the team on top now. Another great ball comes in and Diop and Ogbonna scramble it behind between them, with the former almost kicking the latter in the face in the process.
Hughes puts in another fine ball and finds Dawson but Fabianski makes an easy save. Minutes later, a Femenia ball goes across the face of goal.
Is this an edginess among the West Ham players or is the game losing some of its edge? Either way, the mood seems to have changed.
Well Watford couldn't have hoped for a better start to the second half. Can they go on and make a miracle comeback?
- GoalTroy DeeneyWatford
Are Watford back in this? Doucoure does fantastically, beating a slew of West Ham defenders before finding the post with his shot. But it falls kindly to Deeney, who passes it into the back of the net. Game on!
Hughes picks out Kabasele from a corner and the defender's glanced header drifts just wide.
- 2nd Half
And we're back! Can West Ham add to their lead? Can Watford get back into it?
It looks like a change at the back for Watord at half-time, with Mariappa replacing Masina...
- End of 1st Half
And that's half-time. That's about as good a first half as West Ham could have hoped for. Watford have been dreadful at the back and, with the exception of Sarr, have offered very little going forward to boot.
There's a half chance for Watford as Dawson meets a cross. But he can't keep his header down and it's good defensive work from Diop to put him off and get tight.
Again, Watford are getting into West Ham territory but doing very little with it. Moyes will be happy to see his team sit back and look to counter. There's no sense in West Ham committing men forward just before half-time with the game firmly in their own grip.
That must feel like a real kick in the teeth for Watford, who had responded fairly well to their horror start, albeit with very little end product. It's hard to see how they get anything from this and the goal difference implications could be disastrous.
- GoalDeclan RiceWest Ham United
WEST HAM ARE THREE UP! The corner is partially cleared. Noble feeds Rice just outside the box and the England international hits it and it flies into the corner of the net. Foster barely moved and that's surely the three points for the east Londoners...
- Yellow cardWill HughesWatford
Hughes gets the second booking of the day after a cynical tackle on Noble. It doesn't stop the counter attack and West Ham have a corner..
Sarr gets in behind again and is in a foot race with Ogbonna, who does just about enough to put him off.
VAR is in the game right now. First Cleverley plays it against Ogbonna's arm in the West Ham box, but his arm was tucked firmly against his body and there's nothing doing. Then Creswell is apparently hit in the face by Sarr, who escapes punishment for serious foul play. The left-back appears to have a bloodied nose and there's a short break.
We've often seen the momentum of games turn after these drink breaks. How will this one affect Watford, who were beginning to get a foothold in the contest.
After the frantic opening 15 minutes or so to this match, the tempo has calmed down a bit now. It's time for a drink...
Watford have responded pretty well since falling behind. Sarr crosses from the right towards Welbeck, who can't get on the end of it. Masina commits a foul and the danger is over.
Sarr is the danger man for Watford so far! This time he gets in behind and seems to be felled by Fabianski and Ogbonna, but he's called offside. VAR checks and confirms that the Watford defencsive line just about did its job...
Watford go long again to Sarr, who shoots powerfully but it's blocked by Fabianski's legs. Cleverley's follow-up is also blocked. Great opening quarter of an hour!
This is dreamland stuff for West Ham. It's far too early to make bold statements about goal difference but this would put them ahead of Brighton courtesy of being three goals to the good.
- GoalTomáš SoucekWest Ham United
West Ham have had a dream start. Bowen picks up the ball on the right, cuts back onto his left and plays a fantastic ball to Soucek, who heads home at the far post. This could be huge for the Hammers.
Cleverley gets the first booking of the match for a cynical and robust challenge on Bowen.
- GoalMichail AntonioWest Ham United
GOAL!! West Ham 1-0 Watford!
Watford play some suicidal football at the back and Fornals' dinked pass finds its way to Antonio via a deflection. The in-form attacker is forced to shoot from a very awkward angle on his left foot but he still nutmegs Ben Foster and first blood goes to the hosts!
West Ham's turn to go long as they try to pick up Bowen, who runs in behind his marker from the right wing, but he can't bring it down and it's a goal kick for Watford.
Antonio is the man in form for West Ham and he goes round Kabasele around the by-line but he can't quite keep it in play.
- 1st Half
And we're off! After the players take the customary knee, Watford kick off and immediately go long to Sarr, who runs the ball out of play.
The teams and out and we're ready to go!
So we're 12 minutes away from this colossal game! Stay tuned.
Both of teams are hoping to be in the Premier League next season. But one team who definitely will be are Leeds United, who have been promoted from the Championship after West Bromwich Albion lose to Huddersfield just now. The Baggies and Brentford will duke it out for the second automatic spot.
It's almost a year since these teams last met. It was late August last year, when Covid-19 meant absolutely nothing. West Ham, then in the midst of a promising start to the season, won 3-1. But a lot has changed in 11 months.
That's 500 West Ham United appearances for the skipper Mark Noble. Can he mark it in style?
How much is a win worth? Sometimes it's far more than three points and this is one of them. West Ham and Watford have 34 points apiece and sit three clear of the drop with three games to play. This is one of those matches and a win would go a huge way to securing Premier League status...
