FULL TIME
Yet another dodgy VAR penalty but Southampton won't care.
Ten games in and they're 5th place above both Manchester clubs.
Brighton languish in 16th with so few wins in 2020 to speak of.
Saints keeping Brighton at bay here.
The Seagulls will be so frustrated with a loss here. They've not deserved it, especially in such dubious VAr circumstances.
Ryan makes a brilliant tackle on Armstrong to keep brighton in the game.
Still tight.
Bissouma picks up a yellow after a tackle charged with frustration.
Plenty of time wasting by Saints now. Can Brighton grab an equaliser?
CLOSE!
Up the other end Maupay stabs an effort at goal!
The hosts will not be happy but Saints are heading fifth as things stand.
Such. Drama.
GOAL! BRIGHTON 1 SOUTHAMPTON 2 (INGS, 81')
The returning hero smashes it in!
Cue huge debate and discussion from all corners of the internet. Was that a clear and obvious error? I'm not so sure. Microscopic stuff.
PENALTY TO SOUTHAMPTON
DRAMA DRAMA DRAMA
Loooooong check.
Free-kick to Southampton on the very edge of the box.
VAR has a check though...
Bissouma is having a cracking game for Brighton. Completely dominant in midfield.
That said, he's just one man, and Saints still look the more likely winner.
Nine attempts each so far.
CHANCE!
What a goal this would've been.
Ings finds Redmond through the tightest of gaps but the rusty midfielder whacks a volley well over from eight yards out.
Walcott is off, and the returning Redmond is on.
Can he inspired the Saints to all three points?
Lamptey down the right with miles of space but he fluffs his pull-back.
TAKE TWO
His second pull-back to Gross is whacked over the bar.
Maupay is on the field. Brighton want that win.
CHANCE!
Ings makes something from nothing and plants a header into Ryan's arms. Half a chance, still a chance.
Southampton on top now. Plenty of Brighton bodies blocking the ball.
Armstrong has a go but White blocks it.
Corner.
CHANCE!
Walcott bends one over the bar. Best chance of the half. Not a great chance but the best of the half!
Adams unleashes an almighty scream as he concedes a throw-in.
It's very tight on the flanks. It's tight all over the pitch. Tight.
Adams is caught late by Dunk, who is going to pick up a yellow this time after his stern warning earlier.
Somewhat inevitable.
Welbeck is down clutching his shoulder now. Looks painful.
He shakes it off. We move on.
Ooof,
McCarthy in no man's land with Gross on a free run into the box.
He gets lucky as the ball goes out for a goal-kick.
Brighton fans laying down some solid chants.
All the classics. Yelling curses when the 'keeper takes any goal-kick. A vintage that I have sorely missed.
It's 1-1, but they're just happy to be here.
Romeu picks up a booking and gives away a free-kick with Connolly on the charge!
Necessary challenge if ever I saw one!

HEADS UP
HALF TIME
Southampton have put the pressure on these final 10 minutes of the first half and will be rewarded with a much better half-time team talk I'm sure.
Brighton have been better, but it's 1-1.
This game is finely poised for an exciting second half.
GOAL! BRIGHTON 1 SAINTS 1 (VESTERGAARD 45')
Southampton have their equaliser!
It's a set-piece. Ward-Prowse. Corner. Vestergaard. Header. Bang.
He leaps highest and sends one into the net.
Brighton are struggling to get out of their half at the moment but that doesn't mean Southampton are doing anything useful.
Counter attack time!
Connolly bursts down the left after Bednarek has his pocket picked. But the ball into Welbeck is intercepted.
Saints just breathing a bit of life into their play as they try and grab a goal before half time.
It's all going through Walker-Peters down the right before he finds Armstrong in the middle.
But Brighton are keeping a tidy shape and eventually Walcott flings a cross off the pitch.
Bissouma smacks a clearance into Ward-Prowse's face and it looked pretty painful.
Then we have around five throw-ins in a row within the same 30 yards.
It isn't vintage football.
Dunk gets a proper talking to by the ref. Pretty much as close to a booking as you can get such were the ref's stern words.
Brighton deserve their lead on balance, Saints have not really got going in this one yet which is uncharacteristic of a team known for their quick starts.
Brighton have another chance now as Gross hammers over. The Seagulls could have two for sure.
Will we see Ings tonight?
Brighton fans loved that and Brighton are almost in again as Lamptey parades down the right at full speed.
He can't quite pick out his man in the middle as Vestergaard does brilliantly to keep p..
GOAL! BRIGHTON 1 SAINTS 0 (GROSS, 26)
Gross absolutely leathers it into the top right corner.
PENALTY TO BRIGHTON!
Ward-Prowse is penalised for a handball in the box! His arm was flying up and out of control.
Ryan with some dodgy distribution straight into the path of Walker-Peters but the full-back can only pick out Walcott who has strayed offside.
Bissouma strides forward and finds Connolly who picks out Welbeck down the left.
The former England man pulls back for Connolly when perhaps he could've gone for goal, but Connolly earns a corner as Southampton clear their lines.
A calm few minutes in midfield we've just had. This one still finely in the balance.
Ings is off to warm-up a little, but that might be because of how cold it is.
Djenepo picks up a booking for bringing down a full throttle Lamptey.
Bit unlucky there because any touch was going to send him flying.
CHANCE!
A deep free kick is whipped on to Dunk's head and he's in total space but puts the free header well over.
Should. Do. Better.
Just the five Premier League wins for Brighton in 2020...
That's trouble.
And fans have not seen a single one of them.
That could all change today and the 2000 fans present are having a great time in full voice.
It's end to end stuff so far with little quality in the final moments.
The full backs are having a great time so far with very little joy for the midfield.
Brighton with another great opening as Gross bursts down the right in acres of space. He appears to have been offside but the Saints defence were nowhere to be seen.
CHANCE!
March bursts down the left and pulls back for Welbeck who sidefoots straight into the arms of McCarthy. Couldn't quite get the power on that.
Lamptey loses possession in his own half but Adams can't quite make the most of a Saints offensive.
Brighton yet to win at home this season but make a typically electric start with blue shirts darting about the place.
Bissouma threads a ball through the middle intercepted by Vestergaard.
Up the other end, Djenepo has an early go from distance but drags his shot well wide.
GO GO GO GO
SOUTH COAST CLASSICO
Freezing cold at the Amex I'm told.
FIVE MINUTE WARNING
MARCHING ON
1000 UP
Southampton could also become only the 11th team to hit 1000 Premier League goals tonight.
They need three more.
Who wants it???
MONDAY NIGHT FAILURES
LAMPTEY BACK IN BUSINESS
And a big boost for Brighton too who welcome their marauding full-back Lamptey back from suspension.
One of the breakout stars of the season so far, Lamptey ahs caused chaos up down many flanks this season. He replaces Maupay in the starting lineup.
INGS ON THE BENCH
After a month on the sidelines, Ings is back - on the sidelines! But this time Hassenhuttl can actually bring him on.
A huge boost for Southampton who have struggled without him.

BRIGHTON VS SOUTHAMPTON
A very good evening and welcome to our live-text coverage of Brighton vs Southampton at the Amex stadium.
The Saints are currently eighth place and were riding even higher before going winless in their last three. Victory here could reboot their solid start and propel them into 5th place ahead of Manchester United.
Brighton, meanwhile, are toying with a Christmas relegation scrap in 16th place. They're four clear of the dropzone but things are looking nervy. A win could give them some clear daylight as we head into the festive season and see them leapfrog Arsenal no less.
Plenty to play for and 90 minutes to play it in. Stay with us for all the build-up, hype and highlights ahead of kick-off at 8pm.
