GOAL! Liverpool 3 (Jota 88) Arsenal 1

It's a debut goal for Jota, and all three points for Liverpool! Alexander-Arnold whips a nice cross into the area, which Luiz can only head out to Jota on the edge of the area. Jota controls it with his chest and then guides a shot just inside the post with Leno rooted.

86'

Liverpool make an absolute mess of a break and should be 3-1 up. Salah finds Wijnaldum in space on the right, and he squares it first time to Jota in the area. Jota chests it down but just as he's about to shoot Salah runs across his line and in the confusion, Arsenal clear.

85'

Arsenal win another corner. Pepe takes it again, and plugs it low into the first man again. I don't think he'll be taking the next corner.

83'

CHANCE! Salah has been quiet this half, but this is sensational; he cuts right across the face of the area and angles a lovely ball in to Jota, who has a clear look at Leno and the goal. He shoots, but can only locate the side-netting.

82'

Heart in mouth stuff from both Holding and Leno as they play it around precariously six yards from their own goal. It's always so close to going wrong, and it looks inevitable that it will in a big way. When Liverpool eventually get the ball back Jota has a yahoo at hitting the top corner, but misses by a distance.

80'

A double change for Liverpool. Mane and Keita are off and James Milner and Diogo Jota come on, the latter for his Liverpool debut.

78'

Arsenal win a corner after forcing Robertson to put the ball behind. It's a miserable one from Pepe though, who doesn't even get it off the floor as he hits the man at the front post and it's cleared.

76'

Ceballos slides a ball through the defence again, this time to Nketiah, but Alisson is out to clear the ball. I think he was offside anyway, but Ceballos has made a real difference here. Liverpool break to the other end, and Firmino's shot from wide on the right is deflected behind for a corner.

PlayStation football from Arsenal at the back again, and they cough it up near the left touchline. Mane eventually barrels through two challenges and tries an ostentatious curler to the far post, but Leno holds it comfortably.

67

Liverpool have got a free kick in a nice position, 35 yards out and to the left. Robertson can only hit the first man though, and Arsenal clear.

64'

CHANCE! Liverpool respond immediately, cutting through the heart of Arsenal's defence with a barrage of quick passes and finding Mane near the penalty spot. He spins and shoots, but scuffs the ball a yard wide of the post.

63'

OH WHAT A CHANCE! Ceballos finds Lacazette with a slide rule ball that dissects the entire Liverpool midfield and back four. He's one on one and central, but can only bang his shot straight into the midriff of Alisson. It's a good save, but it should be 2-2.

62'

Van Dijk has a crack from 25 yards. It's straight at Leno but bounces awkwardly, and he does well to palm the ball away to safety.

59'

Willian sildes a through pass to Lacazette, who beats Liverpool's high line via being a mile offside. He goes through and shoots, and Alisson saves, then the flag goes up.

56'

More patient, probing stuff from Liverpool here. Arsenal look more sprightly this half, and are getting to the Liverpool players much quicker than in the first half.

53'

Another error from Holding, who is closed down quickly my Mane and muscled off the ball on the corner of his own area. He recovers well to cut out Mane's attempted back heel to release Robertson, but he's struggling down that side.

51'

Holding gives the ball away deep in his own half again. Keita picks it up, drives at the Liverpool defence and a Firmino cut back to Salah is intercepted and cleared.

HT

That's half-time.

45'

There will be a minimum of two added minutes.

42'

What a chance here for Maitland-Niles! He springs the high Liverpool line perfectly, racing on to a raking fifty yard pass from Luiz, but his first touch is horrible and he shins it straight through to Alisson. Any kind of half decent touch there and he was in.

41'

A long pass from Alexander-Arnold finds Firmino in the penalty area. He tries to chest it down first time for Salah, who is bursting into the penalty area, but Leno slides out to claim the ball.

39'

Holding gives the ball away 40 yards from his own goal now, and a reverse pass to Robertson almost gets Liverpool away again but Willian tracks back superbly to get in front of him and win a free kick. A third for Liverpool before half-time would not be a surprise here.

37'

Liverpool weren't exactly a sleeping elephant, but Lacazette's goal has given them the impetus to go to a level Arsenal can't deal with. Arteta will not be happy at a pretty feeble ten minutes from his defenders since they took the lead.

34'

GOAL! Liverpool 2 (Robertson 34) Arsenal 1

Liverpool are ahead! Alexander-Arnold floats a cross into the area, which Bellerin can only glance into the patch of an unmarked Robertson coming in at the back post. Robertson gets it under control and scoops a lovely finish over the diving Leno to give Liverpool the lead.

33'

Keita has a whack at goal now, from a very tight angle on the right of the penalty area, and Leno punches the ball to safety.

30'

Blimey, that was a busy few minutes. Even the players seem to have subconsciously agreed to take stock.

He crosses weakly to the back post where Robertson should cut it out; instead, Robertson connects horribly with the ball and deflects it to Lacazette, playing him onside. 24'

Luiz plays a poor pass out of defence that Liverpool steal on the edge of the area. They quickly work a shot for Wijnaldum, but it's weak and straight at Leno.

21'

OFF THE BAR! Robertson gets into space on the left of the area and his low cross is cleared behind for a corner by Xhaka. Said corner is headed clear to Alexander-Arnold on the edge, and his booming drive deflects off Bellerin, off the crossbar and away.

19'

Arsenal can't do much here beyond trying to clear the ball long out of defence, and it's playing right into the hands of Liverpool. Arteta's team are committed to playing out from the back, but it's been a bit wayward a few times already between Leno and his defenders.

15'

GOOD SAVE! Alexander-Arnold whips a lovely low ball in to the six-yard box. Mane arrives at speed to connect with a half-volley, but it's straight at Leno who parries the ball to safety.

14'

Lacazette tries to slide a ball down the inside left channel to Maitland-Niles, but Gomez gets across to snuff out the danger.

11'

Liverpool cut through for the first time, as a lovely angled ball from Keita releases Robertson into the penalty area on the left. Robertson drills across but it's blocked behind for a corner. From that, the ball breaks to Alexander-Arnold, who picks out a superb cross to Van Dijk at the back post. He heads it across goal and Luiz has to nod it behind for a corner.

10'

Arsenal are holding a good shape here, and not giving Liverpool any gaps to play through.

8'

Fabinho bundles over Lacazette 30 yards from Liverpool's goal, but for some reason Pawson doesn't see that as a free kick to Arsenal. Bizarre decision, and Liverpool break.

6'

All Liverpool so far, and there's an electric pace to this. Imagine it in a full Anfield. Lots of sharp, one-touch stuff from the home side, all inside the Arsenal half, but not yet troubling the penalty area.

KICK-OFF

We're underway at Anfield.

20:00

The players take the knee before kick-off; black lives matter.

19:55

We’re almost ready to go at Anfield. Your referee for the high jinks tonight is Craig Pawson.

19:50

I think we've got the most intriguing fixture of the Premier League so far here tonight. It's not so much what we might learn about Liverpool, but what might be revealed about Arsenal. It's undoubtedly going in the right direction under Arteta, but where are they in relation to the best team in the league?

19:45

A quick recap on the state of play in the Premier League; Leicester City and Everton have made perfect starts, winning three out of three so far and with the former in top of the table on goal difference. Liverpool and Arsenal have won two out of two respectively, so if we get a winner here tonight they'll vault up to nine points too.

19:40

These two clubs have faced each other 230 times on all competitions. Liverpool have the edge historically, with 89 victories to 80 and 61 draws. Perhaps more pertinently Arsenal have come out on top in the last two – a 2-1 victory at the Emirates in July and then winning the Community Shield on penalties at Wembley last month. In the Premier League, Arsenal haven’t won at Anfield in their last eight visits.

19:35

In the build-up to this match, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta stressed the need for his team to adapt if they’re going to get a result at Anfield. There’s a level of ambition in his fledgling reign that has been buoyed by recent results; they won the FA Cup and the Community Shield in October and have maximum points from their two Premier League games so far. The latter of those victories, at home to West Ham last week, showcased the adaptability Arteta is looking for; Arsenal didn’t play brilliantly, but hung in there to manufacture a late winner in a game where more recent iterations of Arsenal might have listlessly slid to defeat.

19:30

The champions have made a perfect start to the defence of their title, beating Leeds United and Chelsea in their opening two games. That said, it hasn’t been imperious; it took a clumsily conceded late penalty to sort out Leeds 4-3 on the opening weekend and their victory at Stamford Bridge was only secured after Chelsea were reduced to ten men for the entirety of the second half. Banking three points without being in top gear however is the calling card of the very best teams; when Liverpool do hit full stride this season, look out.

19:25

Arsenal keep the 3-4-3 they used against West Ham last week, but there are four changes in personnel. Kieran Tierney is fit again and takes the place of Sead Kolasinac on the left of the back three, while David Luiz takes the place of Gabriel in the centre. Mohamed Elneny is preferred to Dani Ceballos in centre of midfield, while Ashley Maitland-Niles takes the place of Bukayo Saka on the left.

19:20

Just one change for Liverpool as Joe Gomez returns at centre-back and Fabinho, who performed that role so well at Stamford Bridge, moves into midfield as Jordan Henderson drops out. Thiago Alcantara is not available tonight due to fitness issues but there’s a place for Diogo Jota, Liverpool’s other recent signing, on the bench.

19:15

And your visitors, the Arsenal:

19:10

Some teams, then. Your cordial hosts, Liverpool:

19:05

There are few fixtures in English football with a history as rich in drama as this one. To name but three examples from Anfield, Michael Thomas prising the league title away from Liverpool when it was up for grabs in 1989; Robbie Fowler in his mischievous pomp, scoring the fastest ever Premier League hat-trick in four minutes and 33 seconds in 1994; and that rollicking 4-4 draw in 2009, where Andriy Arshavin scored all four of Arsenal’s goals.

19:00

Good evening and welcome to live coverage of Liverpool versus Arsenal in the Premier League. Team news from Anfield will follow shortly.
