FULL-TIME: Liverpool 3-0 Leicester City
A mightily dominant Liverpool performance against a very lacklustre Leicester who struggled to create any chances and were sloppy defensively. Liverpool now move into 2nd place in the Premier League table level on points with leaders Tottenham and Leicester move down into 4th.
Vardy latches onto Albrighton's pass and tries to go round Alisson but the angle is all off and he shoots into the side netting.
- OffSadio ManéLiverpool
- OnTakumi MinaminoLiverpool
Takumi Minamino replaces Mane in the second of the two changes.
- OffDiogo JotaLiverpool
- OnDivock OrigiLiverpool
Double substitution being made by Liverpool now the win is secure. First of the two sees Divock Origi take to the pitch in place of Jota.
- GoalRoberto FirminoLiverpool
GOOOOAAAAALLL!!! Liverpool convert from another Milner corner to make it three! Firmino is completely unmarked as he rises to head the ball past Schmeichel for his 2nd Premier League goal at home this season. He only scored at home in the league once in 19/20.
OFF THE POST!! It's honestly a miracle that Liverpool aren't many more goals ahead! Firmino's low strike ricochets off the post for starters, then Mane has a shot deflected onto the post too after Albrighton struggled to get it away.
Jota goes on a brilliant run as he wriggles his way past Maddison and Mendy before going to ground in the box after a coming together with Fofana. Despite his passionate protests for a penalty, a VAR check quickly supports the referee Chris Kavanagh in rejecting that claim.
- Yellow cardNampalys MendyLeicester City
Mendy gets a deserved yellow card for lunging in at Wijnaldum and catching him late.
- OffHarvey BarnesLeicester City
- OnCengiz ÜnderLeicester City
The other change sees Rodgers bring on Cengiz Under for Barnes. Leicester potentially playing in a 4-2-3-1 now or something similar.
- OffChristian FuchsLeicester City
- OnDennis PraetLeicester City
Leicester finally make a change as they revert to a back four with Dennis Praet coming on for Fuchs.
DOUBLE SAVE!! How has Alisson managed to keep the ball out?!
Mendy is fouled by Wijnaldum and Leicester win a free-kick in a dangerous area. Maddison tries to dink it over the wall but his lofted pass is quite weak and has to be helped on by the head of a Liverpool defender. The ball finds its to Vardy through on goal but he can't get around Alisson and Tielemans tries to score on the rebound, but it wouldn't have counted anyway because the flag is up for offside.
OFF THE POST!! Almost a second own goal of the evening for Evans, as he heads the ball onto his own post after yet another great save from Schmeichel. He's having a torrid time out there.
OFF THE LINE!! No clue how the Foxes have managed to keep that one out! Schmeichel makes an acrobatic save to take the sting out of Mane's curling shot but the ball looks to be spiralling into the goal until Fuchs somehow manages to get back in time and clear the ball off the line!
- OffNaby KeïtaLiverpool
- OnNeco WilliamsLiverpool
After the physios spending a couple of minutes assessing Keita's injury, he's substituted off for Neco Williams. Not sure how serious the injury is but Keita didn't seem to be hobbling. Milner moves into midfield and Williams will play in his natural right-back position in place of him.
Keita's down and stretching his hamstring...could this be yet another injury for Liverpool?!
Maddison sets Barnes free down the left but his eventual shot is partially blocked by Matip and easily swept up by Alisson.
- 2nd Half
Back up and running now with the second half!
A change of system in the second half could be a good idea for Leicester, as they seem to be defending a bit too deeply and lacking the flexibility in midfield to counter Liverpool's high press. Keita and Jones are passing the ball really well and making it difficult for Leicester to stay in shape too.
Been a great start at Anfield for Jota!
- End of 1st Half
HALF-TIME: Such a dominant performance for Liverpool so far that is reminiscent of a training game almost with them controlling possession and dictating the pace of the game. Leicester looking quite static and overwhelmed defensively, while only threatening on occasional counter attacks. The first goal may have been unfortunate but the home side are definitely good value for their lead.
- Yellow cardJames JustinLeicester City
Justin slides in overzealously and although he gets some of the ball, clips Milner quite high on the shin and he's rewarded with a yellow card.
- GoalDiogo JotaLiverpool
GOOAAAAALLLL!!! Wonderful move from Liverpool! Jones switches it to Robertson on the left with a pinpoint pass, he beats Justin and whips in a fast-paced cross. Jota sprints into the box to meet it and guides his header into the back of the net to make it 2-0! He's now scored in 4 consecutive home games for Liverpool.
Fofana does well to block a Mane effort and it comfortably finds its way into Schmeichel's hands. Liverpool have continued to apply so much pressure throughout this half.
CLOSE!! Justin makes a great run and cuts inside with the ball beyond Milner before trying to curl a shot into the top corner. It goes marginally wide and he's claiming a corner but the referee is adamant it's a goal kick.
CLOSE!! Robertson sends the ball towards the back post from a free-kick and Matip heads it across to Firmino, but he clips it wide from close range!
CLOSE!! Fofana instigates an attack with a marauding run forward and the ball finds its way to Vardy who sets up Barnes and he misses a glorious chance to equalise for the Foxes, scuffing his shot wide!
Liverpool thought they doubled their lead there! But despite Mane finding the back of the net, it's adjudged that two Liverpool attackers fouled Schmeichel in the build-up and the goal won't stand.
- Own-goalJonny EvansLeicester City
GOOOAAAALLLLL!!! Leicester concede in calamitous circumstances! Milner sends in a darting corner and Evans was so preoccupied with grappling Mane that he lost sight off the ball and it hit the back off his head before flying past Schmeichel.
Fofana attempts to head away Milner's cross, but it's only gone as far as Robertson whose shot goes well wide.
SAVED AGAIN!! Liverpool are carving open this Leicester defence, linking up well again before a powerful shot from Jota is saved by Schmeichel to his right-hand side. He's had plenty to do already!
SAVED!! Lovely counter-attacking move from Liverpool leads to Keita putting Jones through and in behind the defence. He lashes a shot and it's saved brilliantly by Schmeichel at his near post!
Leicester players appealing for handball but the referee and VAR dismiss those claims for a penalty. Seen them given!
Jota finds Mane after a mazy run and the resulting shot is deflected for a corner. The Senegalese international then heads the corner into the side netting.

KICK-OFF: The match gets underway!
Both teams currently observing a moment of silence for former Liverpool and England goalkeeper Ray Clemence who last week sadly passed away at the age of 72.
Interesting comment. Even with the amount of injuries they have their starting XI is still worth a considerable amount and Leicester are deploying a makeshift defence themselves due to their own injury problems.
Cold out there Wes?
Records could be broken tonight...
LEICESTER TEAM NEWS
Brendan Rodgers only makes two changes to the team that beat Wolves 1-0 before the international break, with Marc Albrighton returning to fill in at wing-back for Luke Thomas who has been dropped to the bench and Harvey Barnes replacing Dennis Praet in attacking midfield.
It's not entirely clear which of Albrighton and Justin are on the left or right but I'm guessing Justin will play on the left considering he has already done so this season.
Timothy Castagne was supposedly fit again and available to be selected yet he doesn't make an appearance in the starting line-up or on the bench, while Leicester still have some injury woes themselves with multiple defenders still out of action.
LIVERPOOL TEAM NEWS
In light of a plethora of injuries to key players, Jurgen Klopp fields James Milner and Fabinho as part of a makeshift back four.
Curtis Jones and Naby Keita coming in for Jordan Henderson and Mo Salah are the other two changes made from the 1-1 draw with Man City before the international break.
The bench is very youthful and both summer signing Kostas Tsimikas and 19 year-old midfielder Leighton Clarkson could be set to make their Premier League debuts.
