FT: Newcastle 0-2 Chelsea. 12 unbeaten for the Blues in all competitions now, as they move to the top of the Premier League table with consummate ease, disposing of a poor Newcastle thanks to a goal in each half. Thanks for joining us. Goodbye.
Easy as you like this for Chelsea. Cruising to another three points.
Three minutes of added time here.
- OffHakim ZiyechChelsea
- OnOlivier GiroudChelsea
Giroud looking to get in on the act on the stretch, but he is flagged offside.
Change for Chelsea as Ziyech is replaced by Olivier Giroud.
It's been very comfortable for Lampards's side - who have a corner as Schar puts behind. It's recycled several times and though Ziyech tries his luck with a little lofted ball to the back stick, Darlow can claim.
- OffBen ChilwellChelsea
- OnEmerson PalmieriChelsea
Emerson replaces Chilwell for Chelsea.
What an impact.
Was that a shot on target from Newcastle? Mendy tips Almiron's shot wide. Looked to have been going wide anyway.
One this afternoon will make a real difference...
Chance for Mount to really make sure of the win, but scuffs just wide.
- OffTimo WernerChelsea
- OnCallum Hudson-OdoiChelsea
Change for Chelsea as Callum Hudson-Odoi comes on for Werner.
NO GOAL! Brilliant finish from Werner, but he is just offside as he puts the ball in.
- OffAllan Saint-MaximinNewcastle United
- OnAndy CarrollNewcastle United
Change for Newcastle with Saint-Maximin replaced by Andy Carroll.
CROSSBAR! That was the moment for Newcastle as Longstaff unleashes an effort at goal from distance, it looks to be heading into the top corner, but clips the top of the crossbar and flies over.
The home defence were powerless to stop him.
Joelinton looks to bulldoze his way through, but again he is easily dispossessed.
He has everything.
- OffJavier ManquilloNewcastle United
- OnMiguel AlmirónNewcastle United
Change for Newcastle as Manquillo is replaced by Miguel Almiron.
All about the assist from Werner, as he uses his electric pace to dart between two Newcastle defenders, races clear, lays it through for Abraham, who finishes off the post. Game over?
- GoalTammy AbrahamChelsea
GGGGOOOOOOOAAAALLLLLL!!!!! Newcastle 0-2 Chelsea. There it is! That crucial second, scored by Abraham.
James looks like he is struggling here for Chelsea.
CHANCE! Joelinton has time and space to pick his spot from the edge of the box, as Chelsea defenders back off, but he lofts his effort over the top. Big opportunity for the Brazilian.
Chelsea looking a little less secure now. They need that second goal, big time.
Hayden bulldozes his way through, hammers over the top, but is penalised for handball regardless.
WIDE! Zouma gets up highest to meet a free-kick, but it flashes just past the post.
WRONG OPTION! Awful from Schar as he takes too long to clear, Werner nips in, is clean through, but opts to square for Ziyech, underhits the pass and Newcastle clear.
Abraham with the flick but Werner cannot get there. Here come Newcastle again...
Newcastle have actually started the better side here in this second half.
Hayden clatters into a tackle of James and makes contact with the ball. He also gets a good chunk of the man and it's the kind of challenge he will have to think twice about going forward having already been booked.
- OffJamaal LascellesNewcastle United
- OnFabian SchärNewcastle United
KICK OFF! We are back under way here. One enforced change for Newcastle as an injured Lascelles is replaced by Fabian Schar.
And much of that came as the half drew to a close!
HT: Newcastle 0-1 Chelsea. Deserved lead for the Blues, but Newcastle have crept back into this as the half wore one. Next goal will be crucial.
- Yellow cardJacob MurphyNewcastle United
Chelsea have got sloppy here, and need a regroup at half time. Booking for Jacob Murphy for a foul on Mount. One minute of added time at the end of the half.
Good from Joelinton, until the final pass - the story of his time at St James' so far.
A rarity as Ziyech's delivery from a free-kick is not quite on point.
- Yellow cardIsaac HaydenNewcastle United
Hayden becomes the first player into the book for a lunge at Kovacic.
Early days, but the signs are Ziyech is enroute to being regarded in the pantheon of left-footed crossers.
Great foot-in from Lascelles to deny Werner, with the Newcastle skipper coming off worse. Needs treatment.
BLOCK! Better from the home side. Saint-Maximin cuts inside onto his right, throws the dummy, hammers for goal, but N'Golo Kante makes a fantastic block.
Better from Newcastle as Saint-Maximin back-heels into the path of Jamal Lewis, but Mendy races from his line to smother.
WHAT A MISS! Mount with the pass into Abraham, Werner takes the ball off his team-mate, has the goal at his mercy, but somehow slides the ball wide. Had to score from there.
Several crosses come into the middle from Chelsea, but Newcastle just about deal with them.
It has come to this. Joelinton has an effort from fully 40 wards, having spotted Mendy off his line, but the Brazilian gets it all kinds of wrong.
Another flash across the face of goal as Reece James sends a ball in from the right which Werner comes within inches of tapping home.
Newcastle are penned in their own half here. Every time they win it back, they can only clear the ball back to Chelsea.
Possession football from Chelsea at the moment.
He really does.
Getting the ball off Chelsea is proving rather difficult for the hosts.
Great play from Werner to make space for the cross, he drills across goal, but it just evades Abraham.
Good response from the home side, with Allan Saint-Maximin heavily involved.
They all count.
Newcastle are caught cold by the short corner, Mason Mount whips the cross in, but Fernandez can only divert the ball into his own net under challenge from Ben Chilwell. Unfortunate for Newcastle defender, but Chelsea deserve their lead.
- Own-goalFederico FernándezNewcastle United
GOOOOOOOOAAAALLLLL!!!! Newcastle 0-1 Chelsea. Looks like an own goal, but it had been coming.
SAVE! My word, what a wand of a left foot Ziyech has. Abraham gets on the end of the Blues forward's centre, but Darlow is again alert to it, tipping over.
Nice football from Chelsea. Tammy Abraham with a lovely layoff into Mateo Kovacic, but the Blues midfielder can only blaze over.
All Chelsea now. They are dominating possession and looking like a threat every time they come forward.
SAVE! Too easy for Chelsea as Timo Werner is played through, drills for the bottom corner, but Karl Darlow is down sharply to make a fine save.
After a shaky start, Chelsea are now starting to get on the ball.
An early run from Joelinton earns a free-kick for Newcastle. Federico Fernandez arrives at the back post, but his header is blocked.
- 1st Half
KICK OFF! Chelsea get us up and running at St James' Park.
So here we go. Chelsea dominated this fixture last season, but somehow came away from the north east having tasted defeat. The Blues are a different beast altogether this season, however. We are minutes away!
No side has had fewer shots in the Premier League this season than Newcastle (64). However, the Magpies have scored 10 goals, giving them a shot conversion rate of 15.6% - their highest on record in a single top-flight campaign (since 1997-98). Potent!
They really do have so much talent to turn to.
It really has been some turnaround from the Blues. Chelsea are unbeaten in six Premier League games (W3 D3), with only Spurs on a longer current such run in the competition (7). The Blues have netted at least three goals in five of those six games, failing to score in the other. Also, Chelsea are the highest scorers in the Premier League so far this season with 20 goals
A new skipper for the Blues today.
He is back in training, but not deemed fit enough to make the Blues squad this afternoon.
An important message from the Chelsea boss
HEAD TO HEAD: Newcastle have lost just one of their last seven Premier League home games against Chelsea (W5 D1), winning this exact fixture last season courtesy of Isaac Hayden’s 90th minute strike. However, Chelsea have won five of their last seven Premier League meetings with Newcastle (L2), though the Blues have only managed to keep one clean sheet in this run – a 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge last season.
RUDIGER STARTS, WILSON OUT: With Thiago Silva resting his weary legs after international duty with Brazil, Antonio Rudiger is in for his first start of the season. Otherwise, it is the same team that beat Sheffield United last time out. There was a big blow for Newcastle before kick off with Callum Wilson ruled out due to a hamstring injury. A man with plenty to prove - Joelinton - starts up top. Ciaran Clark makes his first Premier League appearance of the season, too. Miguel Almiron, whose agent angered Steve Bruce in midweek, is on the bench.
TEAM NEWS - NEWCASTLE: Darlow, Clark, Lascelles, Fernandez, Manquillo, Hayden, S Longstaff, Lewis, Murphy, Saint-Maximin, Joelinton... Subs: Gillespie, Schar, Krafth, Hendrick, Shelvey, Almiron, Carroll. /// CHELSEA: Mendy, James, Rudiger, Zouma, Chilwell, Kante, Kovacic, Mount, Ziyech, Abraham, Werner... Subs: Kepa, Christensen, Azpilicueta, Emerson, Jorginho, Hudson-Odoi, Giroud.
The teams are in...
