Full-time: Three late goals for Man United ensure Solskjaer's side return to winning ways with a fully deserved triumph in Newcastle!
- GoalMarcus RashfordManchester United
GOAL! Newcastle 1-4 Man United (Rashford): Rashford puts the gloss on an impressive performance! Fernandes flights the ball over the top of the defence and Rashford races past Krafth to finish past the helpless Darlow.
Five minutes will be added on!
- GoalAaron Wan-BissakaManchester United
GOAL! Newcastle 1-3 Man United (Wan-Bissaka): The full-back scores his first goal for the club to wrap up the points! Wan-Bissaka plays a lovely give-and-go with Rashford before the defender unloads a shot into the roof of the net.
- GoalBruno FernandesManchester United
GOAL! Newcastle 1-2 Man United (Fernandes): What a goal! Fernandes completes a textbook counter-attack and grabs what must be the winner! It comes from Newcastle's free-kick. Mata plays the ball into the feet of Rashford on the left, his reverse flick finds Fernandes who finishes emphatically.
A huge seven minutes remaining. Can United win it? Time is running out and frustration is growing.
Maguire almost wins it for United! He runs out of defence and invited to take a shot, he drills it wide from 25 yards out.
Darlow is still limping but Bruce is resisting the temptation to bring him off. He has been so important to Newcastle tonight.
- OffDaniel JamesManchester United
- OnDonny van de BeekManchester United
Man United sub: James makes way for Donny van de Beek, who is still searching for his first goal in United colours. Is now his time?
A concern for Newcastle as Darlow looks quite uncomfortable after suffering what appears to be a groin strain. He's staying on the pitch for now.
- OffJoelintonNewcastle United
- OnRyan FraserNewcastle United
Newcastle sub: Ryan Fraser replaces the largely anonymous Joelinton.
- OffFredManchester United
- OnPaul PogbaManchester United
Man United sub: Pogba comes on for Fred, with the Frenchman given 20 minutes to make an impact.
Save! De Gea is proving equally as efficient at the opposite end. Shelvey is invited to have a shot from 25 yards and De Gea is at full stretch to parry it clear.
What a save! Mata releases Rashford with a lovely first-time pass. Darlow is off his line quickly and bravely dives at the feet of Rashford to make a brilliant stop. What a night the deputy Newcastle goalkeeper is having!
Newcastle continue to pose a threat on the break. Shelvey is released on the right flank and his whipped cross is begging to be finished, but there's no one in Newcastle colours to meet it.
Shaw surges forward and picks the right pass, but Darlow has confidence rushing through his veins as he makes a save from Fernandes' low shot.
Fernandes' 100 per cent record from the spot is ended by Darlow! And from the resulting corner, Shelvey is on the line to deny Maguire a second!
The penalty is saved! Darlow keeps out Fernandes' spot-kick with a one-handed save! The scores stay level!
The referee Craig Pawson goes over to look at the pitchside monitor and the penalty is GIVEN! PENALTY TO UNITED!
Penalty?! Mata drives forward on the counter and plays through Rashford into space. He is caught by Lewis inside the box and is that a penalty? VAR is going to check!
There's a good tempo about the second half as United threaten now. Mata feeds Fernandes whose clever flick picks out Fred. His ambitious effort is well wide, but that was another promising move by the visitors.
Amazing save! De Gea to the rescue! Saint-Maximin twists and turns to find the space for a cross. He floats a delivery into the middle, finding Wilson at full stretch and he stabs at goal. De Gea dives low to claw the ball off the line. Fantastic save!
Newcastle sub: Schar comes on for Hayden and it looks like a change in system for Bruce.
Newcastle are temporarily down to 10 men as Hayden goes to ground with an injury. It looks like he could be forced off.
There were no changes for United at the break, with Pogba remaining on the bench. In all honesty, they have looked a much better side without the Frenchman. So far, of course.
- 2nd Half
Kick-off! Newcastle get us up and running in the second-half.
Not sure how it's level at the break. Man United have totally bossed proceedings since conceding a second-minute opener and a win is inevitable unless the hosts improve.
- End of 1st Half
Half-time: Newcastle 1-1 Manchester United.
Save! Joelinton concedes possession in midfield and McTominay feeds James. He drives towards goal but his side-footed effort lacks any power and it's a comfortable save for Darlow.
There will be three minutes of added time to play.
Shot! Shaw, of all people, makes a threatening run through the middle of the pitch and feeds Rashford. His shot is well saved by Darlow, who is almost on a one-man mission to keep the scores level.
United continue to apply pressure, with Rashford driving down the right. His cross is catching practice for Darlow, though.
- Yellow cardDaniel JamesManchester United
James was shown a yellow card a moment ago for a reckless foul on Saint-Maximin. Meanwhile Rashford goes off for treatment after a scramble inside the penalty, but he will be fine.
And from the corner, Rashford stabs at goal and Hayden clears it off the line!
Newcastle are asking for it. James is afforded far too much space as he switches it to Wan-Bissaka on the right. His cross is mishit and looks to be sneaking in until Darlow intervenes by tipping it over!
Krafth was all over Maguire as Mata's delivery was made and could easily have given away a penalty.
United continue to probe, James finding the space to have a shot. It's deflected behind for a corner, which Mata takes. Darlow comes a long way off his line to punch it clear.
De Gea seems fine to continue, so Dean Henderson will have to prepare himself for another day.
Good save! De Gea is at full stretch to push Saint-Maximin's powerful effort from the edge of the penalty area. The United goalkeeper has landed awkwardly and he requires treatment on his shoulder.
Saint-Maximin tries to drive down the middle but Wan-Bissaka makes an inch-perfect tackle to stop him in his tracks and recover possession for the visitors.
Full credit to Maguire. He could have asked Solskjaer to take him out of the firing line after a fortnight to forget, but he's present and he has levelled the scores. It's a big goal, too.
- GoalHarry MaguireManchester United
GOAL! Newcastle 1-1 Man United (Maguire): It's a much-needed goal for Maguire! That's one way to answer your critics. He towers above Lascelles to head home from Mata's corner deliver!
Shot! Hendrick plays a nice reverse pass to feed Lewis on the left. His cross picks out Shelvey. He swings a boot at it but it's comfortable for De Gea.
That was a wake-up call for Newcastle, who are sitting incredibly deep and inviting pressure. Bruce's men are struggling to keep a hold of the ball and it seems only a matter of time before United do draw level.
Goal ruled out! Fernandes thinks he's drawn United level with a lovely drilled effort but Mata is adjudged to be offside in the build-up and it's NOT going to count!
Close! Rashford drops into midfield and out muscles Shelvey as he races forward. He goes it alone, shooting from the edge of the penalty area, but drags his shot just wide of Darlow's far post.
Shot! Lascelles' attempted headed clearance is pounced on by James, who tees up Rashford. He unloads a shot but it's blocked by Fernandez and United have a corner.
Wilson has been left isolated in the Newcastle attack and the lone forward is being asked to do an awful lot up there on his own. Since taking the lead, the home side's approach has been pragmatic to say the least.
United's response has been decent. They have Newcastle penned in their own half at the moment. Fred's pass is dummied by Mata and it runs through to Wan Bissaka whose cross from the byline is cleared by Fernandez.
Steve Bruce just won just ONE game in 24 against Man United as a manager. Could he make it two tonight?
James, who is clearly lacking in confidence, drives at the Newcastle defence but he's never in control of the ball and shoots well wide from distance.
That was the 12th goal United have conceded this term. Wow. They let in six last time out against Spurs and their morale must be rock bottom. How they respond is crucial.
It was a fortunate goal, yes, but United were far too open in midfield as Newcastle countered.
- Own-goalLuke ShawManchester United
GOAL! Newcastle 1-0 Man United (Shaw OG): Oh my! Newcastle are ahead after just two minutes! This is NOT the start Solskjaer needed! It's a goal out of nothing as Krafth's cross takes a deflection off Shaw and ends up in the back of the net!
- 1st Half
Kick-off! The players take the knee in the ongoing fight against racism and then Man United get the game underway!
Five minutes until kick-off at St James' Park. It's a big old night for Solskjaer whose side simply must bounce back with a win.

Pre-match stat: Newcastle have won two of their last three Premier League home games against Man Utd (L1), more than they had in their previous 13 against them at St James' Park (W1 D3 L9).
Solskjaer on his midfield pairing of McTominay and Fred: "Scott and Fred are one of the partnerships we've used. They've both got great athleticism and get can around the pitch. That's one of the things we need to improve on, to get a screen of the back four. Last time we were a bit open."
There is still no place in the eleven for Donny Van de Beek, who has yet to make a Premier League start. Fellow new signing Alex Telles also starts on the bench, with Luke Shaw somehow keeping his place in the team. There is no rest for Harry Maguire as he starts at centre-half with Lindelof.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer makes FIVE changes to the Man United team thrashed 6-1 at home to Tottenham last time out. Scott McTominay, Fred, Juan Mata Daniel James , Victor Lindelof are restored to the starting XI, with Paul Pogba dropped to the bench along with Nemanja Matic and Eric Bailly. Anthony Martial is suspended and Mason Greenwood drops out of the squad altogether.
Just the one change from the Newcastle side that beat Burnley, with Jamaal Lascelles returning to replacing Fabian Schar in defence.
