FULL-TIME: Sheffield United 0-3 Arsenal
The Gunners comfortably beat Sheffield United with a near-faultless performance. It obviously has to be treated with cautious optimism given how bad Sheffield United are, but it's at least a confidence boost for all involved ahead of Thursday's tricky Europa League quarter-final second leg in Prague.
CHANCE!! Brilliant from Pepe, who's found space in the middle of the box. He tries to be unselfish and lay it off to Nketiah after taking an extra touch but he probably should've just been ruthless and put his foot through it!
- OffAlexandre LacazetteArsenal
- OnEddie NketiahArsenal
Lacazette is brought off with a few minutes to go and Arteta will give Eddie Nketiah a run out too.
- GoalAlexandre LacazetteArsenal
GOAL!!! Lacazette seals it!
Partey receives the ball in midfield, turns Osborn in masterful fashion and dispatches a perfectly-timed through ball along the grass into the path of Lacazette, who clinically smashes it into the bottom left corner.
- OffGabriel MartinelliArsenal
- OnMohamed ElnenyArsenal
Mohamed Elneny comes on for Martinelli.
- OffOliver McBurnieSheffield United
- OnLys MoussetSheffield United
McBurnie is unable to carry on, so Lys Mousset is on for him in a like-for-like swap.
- Yellow cardPablo MaríArsenal
Mari is booked with the first card of the game. Didn't see why but perhaps he fouled McBurnie?
Ampadu dinks the ball into Baldock inside the box but there wasn't a single Sheffield United player there to meet the resulting cross, with McBurnie going down likely a contributing factor.
- GoalGabriel MartinelliArsenal
GOAL!!! Martinelli makes it two for Arsenal!
Sheffield United have been trying to play it out from the back all game and their deservedly made it to pay for it with Lundstram's pass ending up at Pepe's feet. His shot is saved by Ramsdale and Martinelli is there to tap in the rebound.
- OffBukayo SakaArsenal
Saka is down after seeming to collide knees with Brewster and he's taken off for Willian as a precaution. I reckon Martinelli would've been off instead if that didn't happen.
- OffOliver BurkeSheffield United
- OnRhian BrewsterSheffield United
Rhian Brewster joins McBurnie in attack, as Heckingbottom tries to freshen up his strikeforce in search of an equaliser.
- OffDavid McGoldrickSheffield United
- OnOliver McBurnieSheffield United
Double substitution for Sheffield United and it's the strike duo of Burke and McGoldrick who are off. Oli McBurnie is the first to be subbed on.
Pepe has looked a constant threat cutting in from the right hand side. His cross his headed on to Lacazette, who then produces a bizarre cross that looked like a shot on goal apart from the fact that it was directed away from the box...
Weaving run from Pepe and he finds Lacazette in lots of time and space on the edge of the box but he misses the target.
SAVED! Early chance for Sheffield United as Norwood's cross finds Egan who forces a save out of Leno. Replays show it hit his arm after his head. Good thing he didn't score because it would've taken hours for VAR to decide whether that was the case!
- 2nd Half
Back with the second half now. Will the Blades apply more pressure or is an Arsenal win a given at this stage?
- End of 1st Half
HALF-TIME: Sheffield United 0-1 Arsenal
A first half dominated by the Gunners with a very special goal the standout moment. Sheffield United have rarely threatened but two decent opportunities so far should be enough to make Arsenal wary.
Pepe's corner is met with another Lacazette flick. This one appears to strike Norwood's arm so VAR is having a look...surely not?
SAVED! A rare foray forward for Sheffield United with a corner. Norwood's cross is cleared to Egan, who does well to bring it onto his left foot and shoot. It's more or less straight at Leno though.
CLOSE!! Pepe takes the corner and Lacazette's near post flick is only cleared as far as Martinelli who's powerful shot from the middle of the box is deflected out for another corner by Egan. A lot of chances are falling to him tonight!
Sheffield United have barely laid a finger on Arsenal apart from the chance that fell to McGoldrick. Severely devoid of creativity.
A lofted pass finds Martinelli in tonnes of space down the left, but his eventual pass into the box is poor and cleared away.
CLOSE!! Saka just couldn't get it under control! Lacazette finds him in the box with a pinpoint through ball, but it rolls away from him.
- GoalAlexandre LacazetteArsenal
GOAL!!! That one will bring back memories of Wengerball! A slick, training ground-esque passing move resulting in a Ceballos flick to Lacazette that's put past the keeper with maximal composure. Wonderful goal to make it 1-0!
Martinelli cuts inside on his right foot and shoots from just outside the box but a deflection off the back of Norwood takes the sting out of it on its way into Ramsdale's hands.
CLOSE!! Lovely, fluid passing from Arsenal sees them bring the ball upfield before a Ceballos flick is thumped into the side netting by Martinelli.
A moment of madness from Ramsdale! His attempted pass goes straight at Lacazette. He's very lucky it came straight back to him...
The Blades keep getting so many bodies back in their box it feels like practically every single Arsenal cross is getting deflected or cleared.
Ceballos' deflected cross finds Chambers on the edge of the box and somehow his subsequent cross doesn't find a teammate. Nice little half chance there.
CLOSE!! Lovely touch and turn from McGoldrick in the box! He drags his shot just wide though.
Slick footwork from Pepe to bring the ball forward. He picks out Saka on the right, but his pass into the box is cleared. Positive stuff from Arsenal. Saka's enjoying his free role in attacking midfield.
Holding hoofs it up to Pepe who loses the ball while his legs are tangled up. It won't matter though because the linesman's flagged for offside.
Talking of Saka, Martinelli slips him through on the left and he strikes with power from an acute angle. Well over though.
Hang on. It appears that Saka isn't playing at left-back after all...it's Xhaka?
- 1st Half
KICK-OFF: After two minutes of silence and taking the knee, Lacazette kicks off the game.
It's safe to say John Lundstram isn't exactly popular amongst Sheffield United fans. Just ask one of their former players, Curtis Woodhouse!
Will playing Saka at left-back make Arsenal weaker in attack?
Apparently Sheffield United interim manager Paul Heckingbottom still talks to their previous manager Chris Wilder.
Break-ups are never easy to be fair!
Off the pitch, Arsenal were potentially given a boost this week by the reports that England Under-20 international striker Folarin Balogun will be signing a new contract.
Although it's admittedly yet to be officially confirmed, this would be a surprise move considering it seemed a foregone conclusion he would leave due to lack of first team opportunities.
It will be interesting to see what bearing this has on the futures of Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah.
ARSENAL TEAM NEWS
Mikel Arteta makes a whole host of changes to the starting line-up from Thursday's disappointing 1-1 draw with Slavia Prague in the Europa League.
With Gabriel Martinelli on the left wing, Bukayo Saka is back at left back, while Alexandre Lacazette both captains the side and leads the line in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's absence, who misses out due to flu.
David Luiz, Emile Smith-Rowe, Kieran Tierney and Martin Odeegard all miss out through injury, but more positively, 18 year-old Miguel Azeez could make his Premier League debut off the bench.
SHEFFIELD UNITED TEAM NEWS
Paul Heckingbottom makes three changes to the starting XI who lost 2-1 to Leeds last weekend, as David McGoldrick and Ollie Burke lead the line.
There's no less than four strikers on their bench, including youngster Iliman Ndiaye, who spent last season on loan at semi-professional Hyde United in the Northern Premier League.
