After cup final disappointment, Gareth Bale's eighth career hat-trick and a late Heung-Min Son strike saw Tottenham ease past already-relegated Sheffield United 4-0 on Sunday evening. The Welshman was on scintillating form to make it eight goals in his last eight Premier League games as he lifts Spurs into fifth on 56 points, one point ahead of London rivals West Ham who take on Burnley on Monday night.

BIG MISS! Reguilon is slipped through in plenty of space in the box, but his shot flies well wide. That was poor.
Bergwijn's cross looking for Kane is tipped away by Ramsdale to knock the striker off his stride. Ramsdale has had a very busy evening.
THREE minutes of added time.
- Yellow cardPierre-Emile HøjbjergTottenham Hotspur
YELLOW! For Hojbjerg for essentially wiping out Osborn for no real reason.
CHANCE! Kane has not been at his sharpest this evening. He picks the ball up and fires wide in loads of space. He was miles offside anyway it turns out.
- OffDavid McGoldrickSheffield United
- OnLys MoussetSheffield United
SUB! McGoldrick is off for Mousset.
Sheff Utd are still giving this a go. Burke breaks free down the right and squares it looking for McGoldrick but he is well behind play and it's cleared for a Sheff Utd corner which comes to nothing.
- OffDele AlliTottenham Hotspur
- OnErik LamelaTottenham Hotspur
SUB! Lamela comes on for Alli.
- GoalHeung-Min SonTottenham Hotspur
GOAL!!! It's 4-0 and it's Son who gets on the scoresheet! Alli intercepts Norwood and Bergwijn lays it off to Son. He cuts in and curls a brilliant right-footed strike into Ramsdale's top left corner! Exceptional from Son. That's his 21st goal of the season.
Aurier's cross is almost met by Reguilon at the back post, but Baldock makes a vital headed clearance! Aurier has been fantastic this evening! Sheff Utd have been unable to cope with his marauding runs.
- OffGareth BaleTottenham Hotspur
- OnSteven BergwijnTottenham Hotspur
Bale's work is done. He leaves the pitch with a hat-trick. Bergwijn takes his place.
This is damage limitation time now for Sheffield United. Spurs have been dominant and Bale has been brilliant.
- OffGiovani Lo CelsoTottenham Hotspur
- OnHarry WinksTottenham Hotspur
SUB! Winks is on for Lo Celso.
- GoalGareth BaleTottenham Hotspur
GOAL!! He's done it! It's a hat-trick for Bale! His first in English football since 2012. Aurier cuts in towards the box and tees up the Welsman before he hits it first-time into the bottom corner for his eighth career hat-trick!
Bale's free-kick from around 30-yards out moves a bit in the air but Ramsdale can catch it comfortably. He perhaps should have elected to cross it there, but he is looking to make it a hat-trick lets not forget.
SHOT! That's better! Lloris is tested for the first time. Norwood's shot from the edge of the box. in plenty of space, is caught by the France goalkeeper.
Tottenham look to have put this game beyond doubt. For all of Sheffield United's improved possession in the second half, they have not fashioned out any goalscoring opportunities and look toothless up top right now. Can they turn this around? Spurs have had an easy night so far.
- GoalGareth BaleTottenham Hotspur
GOAL! Bale scores again!! Son sprints down the right before he lays the ball off to Bale in acres of space as he sprints down on goal before smashing the shot past Ramsdale into the top corner! Spurs extend their lead!
Sheff Utd's substitutes at half-time appears to have given them all a bit of a lift and they are the ones being proactive. Spurs, however, know they can be extremely effective on the counter-attack when Kane, Son and Bale are all on the pitch at the same time.
SHOT! Bale drives an effort on goal from range but Ramsdale can cleanly catch it.
NO GOAL!! Just like that Spurs are 2-0 up! It's an emphatic strike from Son! Alderweireld launches a long ball over the top for Son before he cooly smashes the ball beyond Ramsdale into the net. BUT WAIT! VAR is checking for offside. The lines are out in force... and the goal has been chalked off for offside because of Son's outstretched arm!
Sheff Utd have started the second half positively and have been the ones dictating the tempo in the opening stages of this second half.
Lo Celso is down in some pain after Fleck appears to stamp him on the face. Was it accidental or intentional? VAR official Peter Bankes is checking it. VAR deems it was accidental. Lo Celso appears a bit shaken but it seems he will continue.
We are back underway! Sheff Utd make two subs. Bogle and Brewster comes off for Burke and Berge. The Norwegian Burge is back in the team after a long-term hamstring injury.
- End of 1st Half
Bale's sixth goal in his last eight Premier League games has Tottenham deservedly leading 1-0 at the break. Second half coming up!
Alli shoots from the edge of the area but Ramsdale can catch it as the shot is right at him. Alli has played very well so far on just his third Premier League start this season.
THREE minutes of added time at the end of the first half.
CHANCE! Son lays the ball off to Lo Celso just outside the Blades box, but he sidefoots his curled effort over the bar.
SHOT! Tottenham have a free-kick on the edge of the box after Bogle cynically pushes over Son. Bale and Kane are standing over it... Kane's strike goes straight into the wall before his follow-up is wild. He lashes it well wide.
Tottenham have a corner. Lo Celso's cross is headed away by McGoldrick. Tottenham look hungry for another goal before this first half is up.
- GoalGareth BaleTottenham Hotspur
GOAL!! It's a fine goal from Tottenham and it is Gareth Bale who gets it! Aurier plays a delightful dinked ball into the box and the Welshman reads it. He tidily chips it over Ramsdale into the net with very little space to work in. It's a brilliant goal and Spurs deservedly lead! It's Bale's seventh Premier League goal this season.
Norwood's cross into the area evades everyone and ends up with Stevens. Eventually Aurier retains possession for Spurs and they clear. Sheff Utd have grown in confidence as this first half has progressed, but we are still goalless.
Ramsdale is back up on his feet and looks OK to carry on. Backup goalkeeper Wes Foderingham is warming up on the sideline just in case.
Sheffield United come forward. Stevens' cross is headed clear before Brewster fires well wide from outside the box. That was a strike from a man low on confidence. Ramsdale has gone down with a problem with his right foot. He is receiving medical treatment. He looks to be in some pain.
Alli goes down under a strong challenge from Norwood but no free-kick is given.
CHANCE! Reguilon finds Kane in the box with a fine low cross from the left flank, but the England international smashes his first-time effort from just inside the box over the bar. That was a good chance squandered by Kane.
Hojbjerg's lofted ball looking for Aurier is overcooked and goes out for goal-kick. Tottenham have enjoyed 73 per cent of possession so far, but they are yet to break the deadlock with Kane's effort cleared off the line in the 19th minute as close as we've come to a goal from either side at this stage.
There has been a pause in play as Son is receiving medical treatment for that challenge from Egan on the South Korea international. After a few minutes he is now back in the game.
- Yellow cardJohn EganSheffield United
OFF THE LINE! Kane looked like he was about to score the opener as he leaves Baldock on the floor and strikes beyond Ramsdale with a low shot from close-range, but Basham reads it and hoofs clear on the goalline! YELLOW! For Egan in the build-up for his tackle on Son, who fed Kane a tidy pass into the box.
GOOD SAVE! Son tries a dipping low shot looking for Ramsdale's bottom right corner, but the England U21 international makes a fine diving stop to parry behind! The following corner is headed clear by Basham.
Reguilon clatters into Bogle and it provides Sheffield United's defence a moment of light relief as we pause before a Blades free-kick. It's been all Tottenham so far in this opening quarter-hour.
SHOT! Tottenham counter and Bale cuts in onto his left foot and unleashes a strike from the edge of the box, but it rises well over the bar. Spurs' front quartet of Bale, Alli, Son and Kane are asking a lot of questions of this Sheffield United defence already.
Kane's deflected cross loops up and out for a corner. Lo Celso's cross is nodded away at the near post.
Bale tries to edge his way past Stevens into the Sheff Utd box but there was no way in as the Blades defender clears. Spurs are on the front foot right now.
A sloppy pass from Hojbjerg is intercepted McGoldrick before he runs and shoots, but he drags his effort well wide.
CHANCE! Lo Celso plays a ball over the top which Reguilon latches on to, but he cannot quite control it and instead pokes at the loose ball, allowing Ramsdale to claim.
Tottenham are playing deep in Sheffield United's half. Alli tries to storm through the heart of the visitors' midfield but Egan steps forward to make an interception.
OFFSIDE! Son dinks a ball into the box which Kane meets on the volley. Ramsdale makes a fine stop but Kane was offside.
A floated ball across goal finds Stevens but Alderweireld can clear his cross into the box. A good start from Sheffield United.
