FT: Spurs 1-3 Man United. The Red Devils shrug off VAR controversy to hit back from Son's opener. Second-half goals from Fred, Cavani and Greenwood do the damage to really hit Spurs' top four hopes.
- GoalMason GreenwoodManchester United
GOAL! That will seal it Greenwood shifts it to his right inside the area and lashes a low drive beyond Lloris. It came after brilliant foot work from Pogba in the build up.
Expect Mourinho to come under more fire after this result. Spurs have been far too passive.
Spurs will have it all to do to make the top four now with so many other sides in a better position with only seven games to go.
- Yellow cardMoussa SissokoTottenham Hotspur
Six minutes added.
- OffBruno FernandesManchester United
- OnNemanja MaticManchester United
UNITED CHANGE: Fernandes off, Matic on.
As it stands, United will cut City's lead at the top to 11 points with a game in hand. Spurs will stay seventh, but will be six points off fourth.
OFF THE POST! Spurs almost pull it back. Pogba inadvertently flicks on a Tottenham corner and Cavani's touch comes back off his own post!
Cavani will feel that goal was justice too after having that first-half effort ruled out. He's led the line superbly throughout.
- OffLucas MouraTottenham Hotspur
- OnGareth BaleTottenham Hotspur
SPURS CHANGE: Bale on for Lucas.
You have to say United deserve that. They have bossed the half. What can Spurs do to avoid falling off the pace in the top four race?
- GoalEdinson CavaniManchester United
GOAL! Cavani powers a diving header beyond Lloris after delightful play from Fernandes and Greenwood on the right.
SPURS CHANGE: NDombele off, Lamela on.
Aurier acrobatically volleys over from inside the six-yard box after United failed to completely clear a corner. He was yards offside so it wouldn't have counted.
SAVE! Henderson stands tall at his near post after Kane had faked a cross and drilled a hard shot from a tight angle by the left byline.
- OffMarcus RashfordManchester United
- OnMason GreenwoodManchester United
UNITED CHANGE: Greenwood on for Rashford.
- Yellow cardHarry MaguireManchester United
Maguire booked for taking down Kane after he got caught trying to glide past the Spurs man.
- Yellow cardLuke ShawManchester United
Shaw booked for tripping Lucas.
How has that stayed out? Shaw's diagonal ball is hooked back into Pogba by Fernandes, but the Frenchman somehow fails to convert from close range.
VIDEO: Fred levels matters!
WHAT A SAVE! Fernandes drills a fine low strike towards the far corner but Lloris gets across to tip it to safety.
- OffGiovani Lo CelsoTottenham Hotspur
- OnMoussa SissokoTottenham Hotspur
SPURS CHANGE: Sissoko on, Lo Celso off.
CLOSE! Spurs almost regain the lead. Aurier's foray forward ends with his shot being blocked. It falls for Son who sees his low drive beaten away by Henderson's legs.
Fair to say, United probably deserve that.
- GoalFredManchester United
GOAL! Fred hammers home the rebound after Lloris did well to deny Cavani's low strike. It was brilliant one-touch football to create the opening.
SAVE! Lloris reacts well to beat away McTominay's first-time strike from 25 yards.
Fine defending by Rodon as he gets across to deny Cavani a tap in after the forward had motored towards the near post in anticipation of connecting with Pogba's low cross from the right.
OPTA STAT: Son has scored three goals against Manchester United in the Premier League this season; the most by a player against the Red Devils in a single campaign since Sergio Agüero in 2014-15 (3).
Højbjerg stumbles as he sprays a pass to his left. He hits the floor and beats it in pain after being caught by Fernandes on the knee. Play is halted but he looks adamant that he will be back on the pitch - and eventually he is.
VIDEO: And the goal that stood.
- Yellow cardFredManchester United
VIDEO: Cavani's goal is ruled out.
That disallowed goal is still being discussed on social... No real surprise to be honest!
- 2nd Half
KICK OFF! Spurs get us back underway.
- End of 1st Half
HT: Spurs 1-0 Man Utd.
Three minutes added.
- Yellow cardEdinson CavaniManchester United
Cavani booked. He's frustrated by what's just gone on and reacts with a foul on Rodon.
- GoalHeung-Min SonTottenham Hotspur
GOAL! Son slots in at the far post after Lucas had squared Kane's lovely flick into his path.
Kane looks to engineer something special for Spurs from the left side of the box. He creates the space for a shot but drags it across the six-yard box and there is no teammate there to provide the finish.
Social is going into meltdown!
So, it remains 0-0. United and OGS are not happy.
The referee has disallowed the goal following the review. McTominay puts his hands to his head as it was the Scot who caught Son trying to hold him off.
Son receives treatment while the review takes place. He was on the floor while United scored. The referee has been asked to look at the monitor.
Spurs are fuming. They feel McTominay put a hand in Son's face in the build up to the goal. VAR will check....
GOAL! Cavani races on to Pogba's clever pass and slips it under the keeper.
STAT: Tottenham have won five home games on the spin in all competitions, scoring at least twice in each triumph.
Rashford and Pogba have switched flanks with the latter now on the right. The tempo from both sides is still rather slow though.
DYNAMIC DUO: Kane or Son have either scored or assisted 40 of Tottenham's 51 league goals this season.
Lucas does well to stay on side on the right flank. He wastes little time looking for the run of Son in the middle but Henderson reads it and comes off his line to avert the danger. We're still waiting for this game to catch fire.
- Yellow cardScott McTominayManchester United
McTominay booked for a late, lunging tackle on NDombele.
Dier makes a crucial block to deny Rashford after fine work from Pogba and Cavani on the edge of the box.
QUIRKY STAT: Mourinho is hoping to become the first former Manchester United manager to complete a league double over the club since Dave Sexton with Coventry in 1981-82. It’s worth pointing out that Jose had never lost a home match against Manchester United (W5, D5) either.
Lindelof recovers well to nod clear at the near post after Lucas Moura had peeled off down the right and delivered a clipped cross towards Kane.
Both sides are showing a real appetite for this contest in the early exchanges. There's more on it for Spurs but United will be keen to maintain that fine away record.
DID YOU KNOW? Manchester United's only win in their past eight league games at Spurs came at Wembley in January 2019 (D4, L3).
Son horribly miscues from the edge of the box after United had only half cleared a right-wing corner.
H2H: Tottenham have picked up just six wins from their 28 PL home matches v the Red Devils. Three of those victories have come over the past five years and they are targeting a first league double over United since 1989-90.
- 1st Half
KICK OFF! Man United get us underway after a fitting tribute to the passing of Prince Philip.
Almost show time. United are aiming to reduce the gap to City to 11 points and move nine points clear of fifth-placed Chelsea. Spurs are six points off West Ham and desperately need the win to stay firmly in the mix with games starting to run out. There's a lot on it and it's all coming up in five!
Eurosport’s resident football expert Paul Parker expects Manchester United to win at Tottenham in his latest Premier League predictions. Do you agree? Check out what he had to say below.
Heung-Min Son: “We’ve nine games left with the cup final (Carabao Cup), and we have to be ready, we have to be warriors, that’s very important for the rest of the season.”
West Ham have just beaten Leicester City in a very intriguing result in terms of the race for the Champions League places.
Leicester are third on 56 points with West Ham a point further back in fourth. Chelsea are on 54 points in fifth with Liverpool on 52 points. Spurs are seventh on 49 and will know this match is looking like a must-win encounter if they are to keep pace with the pack of clubs hopeful of making that top four.
Speaking of Kane, his namesake Harry Maguire is relishing a tussle with his England teammate this afternoon: "I want to play in the biggest games possible against the best players; that’s why I joined this club. Harry (Kane) is one of those. I know him from England really well. He’s a top striker, one of the best in the world and he does it season after season, scores goals after goals. He'll be ready for battle and I'll be ready for battle. May the best man win.”
Look away now Spurs fans… Reports have emerged in the past few days that suggest Harry Kane may look to leave Spurs this summer. It’s just rumours at present of course, but if he did depart United could well be amongst his suitors. Check out our breakdown of the other clubs who could be interested if it arose as a possibility…
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: “We should never settle for second place at Man United and we’ll never settle for a second place and I think that’s the point here – that we have seen the heights and we know what this club is capable of. For me, I’ve been here now a little while myself and it’s taken time for us to be in this position and, hopefully, we can be better next season because this is below our ambitions.”
Mourinho: “It’s a very important match for us... We have to look at this moment to lots of other teams in the same area as we are, two points more, three points more, two points less, same number of points, and it’s week after week we cannot lose points to them, we have to recover step by step and this match is important like every other match because the three points are there on the pitch to play for."
Three is a magic number for United too. Dean Henderson, Fred and Edinson Cavani are the changes to the side that beat Granada in the Europa League on Thursday.
The big news for Spurs is that Son Heung-min is back in the starting XI. He is one of three changes from the draw with Newcastle. Eric Dier and Serge Aurier also feature.
