Brighton, who remain in fourth, were much improved in the second half but were outclassed by City on the night. Both sides will turn their attention to the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

GOAL! Brighton 1-4 City. Signed, sealed and delivered, that's four! Mahrez has only been on the pitch a few minutes. Foden picks the Algerian out in acres of space on the right side of the box, who fires the ball high into the net beyond Sanchez to seal the points for City.

CHANCE! Foden almost nets his hat-trick. De Bruyne threads an incisive pass into the path of Foden who controls well only to be denied by the foot of Sanchez yet again!

City's third change of the evening sees Jesus replaced by Mahrez for the final five minutes plus stoppages. Guardiola will be frustrated that his side were unable to protect their clean sheet.

GOAL! Brighton 1-3 City. Mac Allister, who has not been on the pitch long, steps up and converts the penalty despite Ederson getting a hand to the ball. Game on?

PENALTY! Brighton have been awarded a spot-kick as Mwepu is taken down by Ederson who mistimed his challenge. VAR are checking...but it's been given!

Another change from City with Grealish coming off and De Bruyne entering the fray for the final fifteen minutes of this match. Now there is an example of squad depth.

City make their first change of the night as Gundogan makes way to a standing ovation from the travelling support, Fernandinho comes on in his place.

The Brighton fans are really getting behind their team every time they break forward. There is a goal in this for the hosts if they can maintain the performance levels they have shown since the break.

Moder takes Brighton's first yellow card of the game with a cynical pull back as Rodri got away from him in the midfield. The hosts have been in the ascendancy in the last five minutes or so.

Brighton are the first team who turn to the bench for reinforcements with a double change. Tariq Lamptey makes his eagerly anticipated return from injury in place of Dan Burn, while Neal Maupay makes way for Enock Mwepu for the remaining half an hour.

CHANCE! A good opportunity for Brighton who almost pull a goal back. Trossard clips a deft cross into March who takes the ball down at the back post and fires straight at Ederson, who has had little to do in this match.

We're into the final ten minutes of the first half plus stoppages and Guardiola will surely be pleased with how City have taken charge of this game.
