Liverpool are riding the crest of a wave at present, with victory over Leicester City on Monday evening being their seventh on the spin in the Premier League. They are firmly in the mix for Champions League qualification but will be without manager Jurgen Klopp for the clash with Aston Villa after the German was hit with a touchline ban by the Football Association.

Klopp relieved after Liverpool secure Europa League football

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been hit with a two-match suspension, but will be on the touchline for the final game of the season after one was suspended.
The German was outspoken in his criticism of referee Paul Tierney following Liverpool’s clash with Tottenham at the end of last month. He also received a fine of £75,000.
"We have our history with Tierney, I really don't know what he has against us," Klopp said. “He has said there [are] no problems but that cannot be true.
"How he looks at me, I don't understand it. In England nobody has to clarify these situations, it's really tricky and hard to understand. But again? He was reffing against Tottenham [in 2021] where Harry Kane should have got a red card. And I love this player, crazy player and I don't want him to get a red card, but he should.”
Klopp subsequently apologised, saying things were said in the heat of the moment, but the FA took a dim view of the Liverpool manager’s conduct.
As a consequence, Klopp was handed a touchline ban by the Football Association.
A statement from the FA read: “Jurgen Klopp has been suspended from the touchline for two matches and fined £75,000 following media comments that he made after Liverpool’s Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday 30 April 2023.
“The first match of the manager’s touchline ban is effective immediately and the second is suspended until the end of the 2023/24 season on the condition that he does not commit any further breaches of FA Rule E3 in the meantime.
“Jurgen Klopp admitted that his comments regarding the match referee during post-match media interviews constitute improper conduct as they imply bias, question the integrity of the referee, are personal, offensive, and bring the game into disrepute.
“An independent Regulatory Commission imposed these sanctions following a subsequent hearing.”
Klopp’s suspension begins immediately, meaning he will be absent from the dugout for the home game with Aston Villa on Saturday, May 20.
The Reds conclude their season with a trip south to take on Southampton at St Mary’s, with Klopp back at the helm.
It is shaping up to be a barnstorming finish in the race for Champions League qualification, with Newcastle, Manchester United and Liverpool separated by a single point.
Liverpool trail Newcastle and The Red Devils by one point and have played a game more, but have won seven on the spin in the league to ramp up the pressure in the race for the top four.
