    CLACK CLACK
Right, we've got some of that players-in-the-tunnel stuff happening. The teams are about to walk out, after the obligatory TV cutaway to Bill Kenwright. There's some atmosphere here; your referee tonight will be Craig Pawson.
    17:20
    BIG DUNC
The great Duncan Ferguson here, with thoughts on some new faces at Everton.

    PERSONALITY AND QUALITY
In his pre-match chit-chat, Tuchel says these are the qualities that Koulibaly and Sterling bring to Chelsea. It'll be interesting to see how Tuchel fits in Cucurella too, given that Chilwell is fit again and Koulibaly naturally plays on the left of the defence.

    DWIGHT
A handy, under the radar piece of transfer business this summer could well prove to be Everton's signing of Dwight McNeil from Burnley. In so far as you can go under the radar with a £20 million price tag attached to you, of course. Whenever I've seen him play though, he's been a handful.

    HEAT
It's a warm old evening across the UK tonight. Jurgen Klopp complained about a dry pitch earlier today, will that be a factor tonight?

    THE FORM BOOK
Here's some good news for Everton: the last four times they've faced Chelsea at Goodison in the Premier League, they've won the match. The most recent of those was a crucial 1-0 win in May.

    'TIS THE NEW SEASON
So, what’s in store for these two? Everton could do with a positive start after narrowly escaping a drop into the Championship last season, but are hamstrung here by a lack of options up front. A poor start in 2022-23 could mean naother long, worrying season.
As for Chelsea, it's a new chapter. Last season they finished third, and lost on penalties to Liverpool in both the FA Cup and League Cup finals. They didn't really kick on after winning the Champions League in 2021; with a new ownership group in charge, can they and Tuchel push Chelsea to challenge Liverpool and Manchester City?

    TEAM TALK
Just like right wing Britain there's a real aversion to strikers here, as both sides line up without an orthodox centre forward. There's a tough shift in store for Anthony Gordon, who looks set to be the out ball for Everton in a 5-4-1. With Richarlison gone and Dominic Calvert-Lewin injured, manager Frank Lampard's hand has been forced.
With Timo Werner unfit and Romelu Lukaku long gone, it looks like it'll be Kai Havertz through the middle today. There's evidence of the new owners' muscle-flexing in the summer though, with new signings Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly making their debuts today. Marc Cucurella, eventually signed from Brighton this week, is on the bench.
