The 24-year-old central midfielder signed for Spurs in August 2005 for £7 million on transfer deadline day. His new deal will keep him at White Hart Lane until 2012.
Jenas began his career at Nottingham Forest, where he rose through the youth ranks to eventually become the club's youngest ever captain.
He caught the attention of then Newcastle manager Bobby Robson, and signed for the Tyneside club in February 2002 for £5 million.
It was while playing at St James' Park that he won the first of his 17 England caps. Since his move to Tottenham he has been a regular in the international squad, and travelled to the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
Tottenham manager Martin Jol told the club's official website: "I am delighted he has committed his future to the Club because JJ has so much talent and is such a positive player.
"He always wants to learn and that is the right mentality to have, he wants to prove that he is a top player and the sky is the limit for him."
Jenas added: "This Club has the calibre of squad that any player would want to be part of.
"The spirit in the squad is terrific, the Club is ambitious and undoubtedly moving forward.
"I feel I still have a lot of potential to develop further and playing alongside team-mates of this quality will help me do that.
"I am very happy here and would love to stay at Tottenham for the rest of my career."
