Cagliari name new boss

Serie A strugglers Cagliari said they have named Marco Giampaolo as their coach. Giampaolo, who last season led promoted Ascoli to 12th place in Italy's top flight, took the place of Nedo Sonetti who was sacked earlier this month.

"Our objective for next season will be survival, though we'll also be trying to improve on the results of the last championship," the 38-year-old Giampaolo was quoted as saying in La Gazzetta dello Sport on Saturday.

Cagliari finished 16th in Serie A last season, seven points above the relegation zone.
