Empoli v Roma result - Jose Mourinho’s side claim a 2-1 victory in Serie A clash at Stadio Carlo Castellani

The home crowd are in good voice and keen to see their team take it to Roma.

It's the visitors who have made most of the early running though.

Roma are currently seventh in Serie and would rise to fifth with a victory, just one point off the summit.

Empoli are 16th with four draws from five league outings so far. They are yet to win and sit just two points above the drop zone.

"I'm not saying we played well because it's not true, but it was a performance sufficient to win or at least not to lose. In these last two games, everything has gone against us." 

After two difficult defeats to Udinese and Ludogorets, Roma have come under fire in Italy with some suggesting Mourinho needs to adapt.

It is perhaps rather knee-jerk following a solid start to the new campaign prior to the losses. However, they will be eager to set the record straight against Empoli tonight.

“I think the team has come on a lot recently. It’s the product of the owners’ ambitions, a winning coach - but most of all the results on the pitch. I think that these are the fundamental reasons why Roma have improved and keep on improving as of late.”

“We respect Roma but we don’t want to set-up a barricade... It’s going to be a very tough game, Roma have champions in their team and they’re going to enter very angered because of what’s gone on the past week. But we have to play our game but also keep in mind we’re developing the foundations for our future.”
