Cristiano Ronaldo will have to serve his five-match ban after the Spanish Football Federation rejected Real Madrid's appeal to overturn it.
The 32-year-old shoved referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea when he was dismissed for diving in Madrid's 3-1 win over Barcelona on Sunday.
Ronaldo will miss Wednesday's Super Cup second leg at the Bernabeu and the first four La Liga games of the season against Deportivo la Coruna, Valencia, Levante and Real Sociedad.
He is set to return on September 12 or 13 when Real Madrid begin their quest to win a third straight Champions League, and will not be in domestic action against until Madrid host Real Betis on September 20.
Zinedine Zidane had said in the immediate aftermath of the match that the club intended to appeal the decision.
"Ronaldo's sending-off annoys me because even if it is not a penalty, the card is harsh," said Madrid boss Zidane after his side's win at the Camp Nou. "We will see if we can do something so that he is available on Wednesday."
Ronaldo was sent off in bizarre fashion, collecting a yellow card for taking his shirt off during a goal celebration before being shown a second for diving.
The Spanish Football Federation issued Ronaldo with a €3,005 fine and a four match suspension in addition to the automatic one game ban the player was due to serve for his red card.
