Zinedine Zidane's side took an early lead to wrap up the tie with a blistering strike from Marco Asensio.
Barcelona, like Real Madrid starting the game without any new signings, could not get into the game, and found further behind when Karem Benzema grabbed a second after woeful Samuel Umtiti defending.

With Cristiano Ronaldo suspended for pushing the referee in the 3-1 win in the first leg as part of his five-game ban, Zidane was able to keep Gareth Bale, Casemiro and Isco on the bench. Madrid were content to control the ball for the second half as their opponents wilted.
In the second half, Lionel Messi went close when he hit the bar, but Madrid were happy to just keep the ball away from their opponents holding a comfortable first-leg lead. While Madrid look the team to beat in Spain and Europe, Barcelona's decline looks set to continue.

TALKING POINT

Barcelona look set to struggle for another season: Lionel Messi was a rare bright spark, but the defence looks shambolic and the midfield continues to look jaded. Ernesto Valverde might well be the manager to take Barcelona forward, but it seems hard to see how they can do this without fundamentally lowering the average age of Barcelona's squad.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Marco Asensio (Real Madrid): It was revealed this week that Barcelona also had the chance to sign the Mallorcan, but it was Real who pulled off the transfer. Asensio's goal was ridiculous, a masterpiece of chutzpah and technique. Real Madrid often look to the transfer market for a superstar, but they may have found one in their own ranks.
