Arsenal and Man Utd want Maier

We begin with an exclusive from The Sun that says both Arsenal and Manchester United are interested in signing German wonderkid Arne Maier. The 19-year-old central midfielder plays for Hertha Berlin and has been earning rave reviews in the Bundesliga this season. This has drawn the interest of the Premier League giants and a move could come in January or at the end of the season.
Paper Round's view: Maier is an exceptional young footballer and he has not looked fazed by the demands of top-flight football this season in the Bundesliga. The worry, as is so often the case in these situations, is how much playing time he would get if he joined a big Premier League club. Given the imminent departure of Aaron Ramsey, and Unai Emery's use of Matteo Guendouzi, perhaps Arsenal makes more sense?

Over-30s policy could see Chelsea lose Luiz

We now move to Stamford Bridge and widespread reports that Chelsea's over-30s policy could see them lose David Luiz, a goalscorer against champions Manchester City on Saturday. Chelsea only offer one-year deals to those over 30, and have done so to Luiz, but the Brazilian centre-back wants a longer contract.
Paper Round's view: This wouldn't be the first time this policy has hurt Chelsea. Luiz may not be at his best but he has an important role to play within the club - he's one of the leaders of the team. Chelsea need to seriously reconsider this policy. Two-year contracts for players into the 30s are hardly a disaster and could avoid situations like this.

Foden set for new six-year contract

The Telegraph have an exclusive that Phil Foden is set to sign a new six-year contract with Manchester City in the next 24 hours. Foden's future was in doubt with his current deal set to expire in 2020 and intense interest from abroad. However this new contract will commit his future to the champions.
Paper Round's view: Paper Round hopes Phil Foden knows what he is doing with this. He needs to only look at Jadon Sancho to see what can happen when you get regular football. Perhaps he hopes that with players like David Silva and Fernandinho into their 30s his time will come sooner rather than later...

Holgate set for loan

And we end with an exclusive from The Mirror, who say Mason Holgate has been told that he can leave Everton on loan in January. Holgate has fallen down the pecking order under Marco Silva and there is reportedly already interest from both the Premier League and the Championship.
Paper Round's view: This is a classic example of how quickly things can change in football. Not too long ago Holgate was considered one of the finest defensive prospects in the country but he's stagnated a little bit now. A move away for regular playing time is just what he needs.
