David De Gea could be about to perform a sensational U-turn and sign a £400,000-a-week contract at Manchester United whilst Manchester City want Ben Chilwell. It's Friday's Paper Round.
De Gea could sign bumper Man Utd contract
We begin with an exclusive from The Sun that says that goalkeeper David De Gea could be about to perform a sensational U-turn and sign a massive contract at Manchester United worth £400,000-a-week. De Gea's deal runs out at the end of next season and it had been previously reported that he would consider leaving Old Trafford. However, this report says that instead he will put pen to paper on this huge new contract.
Paper Round's view: Money talks eh? This contract would make De Gea the best paid goalkeeper in the world, and he is right up there with the very best around. For United money should not be an object, given the importance of De Gea to this team. The key part is to put a team in front of him that can compete for trophies.
City want £50m Chilwell
Moving to the blue side of Manchester and we have an exclusive from The Mirror that says Manchester City want to sign Leicester City full-back Ben Chilwell, who is valued at around £50million. Benjamin Mendy has been struggling with injuries and as such City are looking at Chilwell, who has been in excellent form this season.
Paper Round's view: If this move would see Chilwell play regularly then it is a superb option for him. A chance to play under Pep Guardiola at the highest level would be fantastic for the England youngster and it could take his game to the next level. Of course that depends on how committed the City boss is to Mendy...
Mourinho angry with lack of transfer activity
The Telegraph are one of many to report that Jose Mourinho is angry with Manchester United over the lack of transfer activity. The Portuguese manager wants a centre-back and feels that not enough is being done to bring a new player in.
Paper Round's view: Some may point out the amount Mourinho has already spent on Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof as reasons why he should not be trusted with signing a new centre-back. However the names mentioned, Kalidou Koulibaly, Toby Alderweireld and Milan Skriniar, all would appear to be logical signings. Although that is what we said last time...
Fresh injury blow for Wilshere
And we end with reports saying that Jack Wilshere has suffered a setback in his recovery from an ankle injury which he had surgery on in September. Wilshere injured it again in training at the start of December and is out for the time being.
Paper Round's view: This is a blow for Wilshere and exactly what most people feared when he made the move. Hopefully he can recover from this and get back on the pitch soon.
