22:10 - Bruce not expecting a busy month

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce is not expecting too much business in January.
Speaking after a 2-1 defeat to Leicester today, Bruce told Sky Sports: “I’ve made it public that if there’s one or two out there like we did last year with a loan situation that can improve us then we’ll try and look at that.
"But I think a lot of teams are in the same boat as us with what’s happened with Covid and all the rest of it. I can’t see there being much transfer activity in January and that will go for us as well.”

21:10 - No Botman talks for Liverpool

Liverpool have reportedly not opened official talks with Lille to sign defender Sven Botman.
Jurgen Klopp's side have been linked with a move for the Dutch centre-back, but according to transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano there is "nothing advanced", although he has been scouted.

20:15 - Haaland over Sancho for United?

Jadon Sancho was the subject of much speculation linking him with a summer transfer to Old Trafford, but reports claim Manchester United now favour a move for Erling Haaland instead.
Ciaran Baynes has looked at why United would be smart to push ahead with a move for the Norwegian, even if it was Sancho who found the net during Borussia Dortmund’s 2-0 win over Wolfsburg on Sunday.

19:20 - Lampard's position under 'serious threat'

Chelsea have reportedly started looking at potential replacements for manager Frank Lampard after today's 3-1 home defeat to Manchester City.
Chelsea have lost four of their last seven games and Lampard could be facing the sack less than two seasons into the job.

18:25 - Diallo set to join United this month?

Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini has confirmed Manchester United want Amad Diallo to join them this month.
United agreed a deal to sign Diallo in the summer window and are in the process of finalising a work permit for the 18-year-old.
It has been reported that Atalanta want him to remain on loan for the rest of the season, but that seems unlikely.
"It's difficult,” Gasperini told Sky Sports in Italy. “Because Manchester United want him to join the club immediately in January. Amad received his passport."

17:35 - Athletic sack Garitano

Athletic Bilbao have sacked head coach Gaizka Garitano, hours after a 1-0 win over Elche.
Garitano, who took over in December 2018, leaves with Bilbao ninth in La Liga. However, they had only won one of their last seven matches prior to today's victory and were beaten in the Basque derby by Real Sociedad on New Year’s Eve.

16:50 - PSG's January plan for Dele

As was initially reported by Dean Jones in his Inside Football column, Mauricio Pochettino is set to raid his former club Tottenham Hotspur now that he is in charge at Paris Saint-Germain.
Dele Alli is one of the players Pochettino will target with the midfielder currently out of favour at Spurs, with Jose Mourinho favouring other options in his squad.

However, L'Equipe (via Sport Witness) claims PSG will have to move on some fringe players first before a move for Dele can be funded, with the French champions hoping to raise as much as €40m in sales.
Leandro Paredes, Idrissa Gueye, Julian Draxler and possibly Ander Herrera or Thilo Kehrer could all find themselves on the chopping block as Pochettino attempts to clear space for Dele.

16:15 - Solskjaer to hold talks with fringe players

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plans on holding talks with a number of fringe figures ahead of a squad clear-out at Old Trafford over the next two transfer windows.
The Sun reports Solskjaer wants to offload as many as six players this month. Sergio Romero is one such player who is almost certain to leave Manchester United.
Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Daniel James, Brandon Williams and Jesse Lingard are also fighting for their futures at Old Trafford, with West Brom believed to be interested in Jones.

15:50 - Southampton intensify Gray efforts

Demarai Gray has been the subject of speculation linking him with Benfica and Marseille, but now it seems Southampton have entered the race to sign the Leicester City wide man.
Portuguese outlet Record (via Sport Witness) report Southampton have intensified their efforts to sign Gray who is set to become a free agent at the end of the season.
It's claimed Gray is in no rush to make a decision on his future although signing a contract extension with Leicester City is one option that has been ruled out by the player.

15:00 - Spurs open contract talks with Kane

Harry Kane is in line for a new contract with Tottenham Hotspur already opening dialogue with the England international over a new deal.
The 27-year-old signed a six-year contract extension in 2018, but the Independent reports Spurs are keen to ward off interest from rivals by securing the long-term future of their top scorer.
Manchester City reportedly see Kane as a potential option to succeed Sergio Aguero at the Etihad Stadium while the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino, coupled with doubt over Kylian Mbappe's future, also make Paris Saint-Germain an option.
Kane currently receives £200,000-a-week at Tottenham Hotspur, but the North London club is willing to break its wage structure to keep the England captain.

14:35 - Juve will allow Dybala to leave

Paulo Dybala's future at Juventus continues to be the subject of much coverage in Italy, with the Old Lady offering the Argentine a new contract.
However, Tuttosport reports (via Football Italia) the Italian champions are prepared to sell Dybala is he refuses to sign an extension with his current deal set to expire in the summer of 2022.
Dybala has already rejected an offer of a new contract in the summer. Juventus are unwilling to get into a tug-of-war with the player and would prefer to sell him should discussions continue for much longer.
Reports state Dybala's representatives will meet with Juventus officials this month.

14:05 - Poch given green light to shake up PSG!

Mauricio Pochettino was confirmed as the new manager of Paris Saint-Germain yesterday and the Argentine has now reportedly been given the green light to shake up the club's squad.
The Mirror claims the former Tottenham Hotspur manager will be given the freedom to mould his squad in his own image and that could clear the way for a January move for Dele Alli.
PSG attempted to sign Dele no fewer than three times during the summer window, but with the midfielder out of favour under Jose Mourinho it's possible a reunion with Pochettino in France could appeal.
Dean Jones initially reported Pochettino's interest in some of his former Tottenham Hotspur players in his Inside Football column, with Dele, Hugo Lloris, Serge Aurier and Harry Winks all on the Argentine's radar.

13:40 - Dalot hints at Man Utd return

Diogo Dalot has become something of a forgotten figure at Manchester United with the Portuguese full back currently out on loan at AC Milan this season.
In an interview with Portuguese newspaper Record (via Sport Witness), Dalot has hinted at a potential return to Old Trafford.
"Of course, the feeling is a little deeper, more because I didn’t have the time I liked physically," the defender said about his relationship with United. "I spent great moments at United. I played very important games for me and the team."
In Italy, it's claimed there is a belief Manchester United have a long-term plan for Dalot, which is why they refused to write a purchase option into the loan agreement with AC Milan.

13:05 - Newcastle plotting January moves

Newcastle United are lining up offers for two January targets with Steve Bruce keen on signing Chelsea's Fikayo Tomori and Leicester City's Hamza Choudhury.
The Sun claims Bruce wants to add to his squad in the January window, but will have limited funds meaning the Magpies could look to loan targets as a consequence.

However, it's understood Chelsea are unwilling to sell Tomori as they still believe the young defender will mature into a first team figure.
The Daily Mail reports Choudhary has been offered on loan to Newcastle United as well as Southampton and West Brom with the England Under-21 international keen to play more football.

12:35 - Nice ask Barca about Umtiti

It's not so long ago that Samuel Umtiti was considered one of the best central defenders in the game, but injuries have taken their toll on the Frenchman since then.
Indeed, Umtiti has fallen down the pecking order at the Camp Nou and could now be on his way out of Barcelona as the Catalan club look to other options.
L'Equipe (via Mundo Deportivo) claims Nice have made an enquiry over the availability of Umtiti, who has previously been linked with a number of Premier League clubs. Barcelona and Nice have a good relationship after the loan of Moussa Wague. This could be one to watch.

12:10 - Valencia want Winks on loan

Harry Winks has fallen down the pecking order at Tottenham Hotspur this season, but Valencia could now offer the England international an escape route on loan.
Spanish sports newspaper AS claims Valencia are keen on signing Winks for the second half of the season and have made their interest known to Spurs.

Winks is reportedly open to the idea of a loan switch to La Liga. The 24-year-old recognises his need to play regular first team football to secure his place in the England squad for this summer's European Championships.
Finance could prove to be an obstacle, though, with Valencia in a difficult situation amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Tottenham would likely need to take on much of Winks' wages.

11:40 - Inter may be forced to sell Martinez

Lautaro Martinez has been linked with a number of clubs, including Barcelona and Manchester City, over the past year and Inter might now be forced to sell the Argentine striker.
According to Tuttosport (via Mundo Deportivo), Inter's financial situation means they might have to cash in on Martinez to balance the books.
The likes of Barca and City will have to wait until the summer to make their move for Martinez, though, with Inter unwilling to let the 23-year-old leave the San Siro in the January transfer window.

11:05 - Bamford set for new contract

Leeds United are getting ready to offer Patrick Bamford a new contract amid growing fears at Elland Road that he could leave the club as a free agent.
Bamford has been in excellent form for the Whites this season, scoring 10 goals in 17 Premier League appearances, but only has 18 months left on his current contract.
The Sun reports Leeds United hope to start discussions with Bamford's representatives shortly over a new deal to prevent rival clubs from making a move for their star striker.

10:25 - Milan interested in Lille midfielder

AC Milan have enjoyed a strong 2020/21 season so far with Stefano Pioli's side currently in the title race at the top of Serie A and now it appears they could be set to strengthen further.
According to Calciomercato, AC Milan want Boubakary Soumare with the 21-year-old midfielder currently playing a key role for high-flying Lille.
Soumare has previously been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle United among those reportedly interested in the past, but the Rossoneri are now believed to be leading the pursuit.

10:00 - Eriksen offered to Madrid clubs

Inter have made it quite clear that Christian Eriksen doesn't have a future at the club, making the Danish playmaker the subject of much speculation this month.
Marca claims Eriksen has been offered to Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid as the 28-year-old looks for an escape route out of the San Siro in the January window.

It's not so long ago that a move to Spain looked to be on the cards for Eriksen, but such a transfer failed to materialise and he signed for Inter instead, where he has struggled to make any sort of impression under Antonio Conte.
Eriksen's stock is a lot lower than it was a year ago and so his options are much more limited. Paris Saint-Germain have been mentioned as suitors and that seems a more realistic move than one to Madrid, with Mauricio Pochettino now in the French capital.

09:40 - Pogba to leave United in the summer

More Manchester United transfer news this morning and it appears Paul Pogba is finally set to leave the club at the end of the season.
Of course, the Frenchman has been the subject of much speculation recently after his agent Mino Raiola said his time at United was "over."
United triggered the option to extend Pogba's contract until the summer of 2022, but the Mirror claims the club has now accepted the midfielder won't be signing a new long-term contract.
Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are all interested in Pogba and Manchester United hope to use that interest to spark a bidding war for the player at the end of the season.
Pogba's United career has appeared as good as over for some time now. It's time for both parties to go their separate ways, Despite his recent good form, it just hasn't worked for Pogba at Old Trafford. He needs a fresh start and United must move on too.

09:20 - United prefer Haaland over Sancho!

It was the saga of the summer that amounted to very little in the end, but now Manchester United have reportedly turned their focus away from Jadon Sancho and are insted more interested in one of his Borussia Dortmund teammates.
The Mirror claims the Old Trafford club believe they "dodged a bullet" by not breaking the bank to sign Sancho and would now prefer to sign Erling Haaland.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted the Norwegian striker signed a year ago before he ultimately decided to join Dortmund and Manchester United could return for the player with another offer.
Meanwhile, Sancho's form has been poor this season with Dortmund chief Michael Zorc convinced the England international has been distracted by the transfer talk.
Both players would improve Manchester United's squad. The short-term signing of Edinson Cavani has given Solskjaer some real firepower in the attacking third, but their right wing is still something of a wasteland. Sancho would help address this.
