Tottenham have pulled off a stunning deadline-day loan move for Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel.
Spurs looked to be out of the running in the battle to sign the 19-year-old after he reportedly turned down a move to the club.
But Tel performed a dramatic U-turn and has now joined Ange Postecoglou’s side on a deal until the end of the season, subject to international clearance and the securing of a work permit.
Tel’s loan deal will include a purchase option of £45.7 million and a six-year contract.
Tottenham confirmed Tel will wear the No. 11 shirt.
The Frenchman had been linked with a number of clubs as the January transfer window drew to a close, including Manchester United, Arsenal and Aston Villa.
He joined Bayern from Rennes in 2022 and has scored 16 goals in 83 appearances.
The 19-year-old has struggled for minutes this season under manager Vincent Kompany, starting just twice in the Bundesliga as understudy to Harry Kane.
Tel earned his debut for Rennes in August 2021 as a 16-year-old and, in turn, became the youngest player to play for the club.
He went on to make 10 appearances for the Ligue 1 side, before joining Bayern in July 2022. A month later, he netted his first goal for the German side, becoming the club’s youngest scorer.
In September of that year, Tel also became the youngest player to start a league game for Bayern, marking the occasion with a goal.
