Besiktas coach Riza Calimbay has resigned nine months after taking up the post, the Istanbul club said on Monday. The board accepted his resignation after disappointing results left Besiktas seventh in the first division after nine games, 13 points behind leaders Galatasaray
The statement, on the club's official website, did not provide any further information.
However, the CNN Turk television channel said former Besiktas coach Gordon Milne was in Istanbul for talks with the club's management.
Calimbay was a former Besiktas captain, revered by the club's supporters, but fans booed the team on Sunday when they only managed a draw at home to Kayserispor.
Besiktas are due to play English Premier League side Bolton Wanderers on Thursday in the group stages of the UEFA Cup.
