The 2022 UEFA Women’s European Championship began on July 6 as hosts England got the tournament underway and have made it to the final 25 days later. Europe’s top 16 international sides have been competing to become the champions throughout this month. Find out England's chances when they play their final and the Euro 2022 schedule.

The 2022 UEFA Women’s European Championship has reached its climax with hosts England just 90 minutes away from a first major trophy, should they beat Germany.
Delayed from 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic and the re-scheduled men’s Euro 2020 tournament, the 13th edition of the UEFA Women’s European Championship has seen the continent’s 16 best international sides battle it out to become the champions throughout July.
It’s been a wide-open tournament with England and Germany now the final two contenders who are vying for the title.

Euro 2022 Schedule and fixtures

The group stage saw two games per day with the first match of each day at 17:00 UK time, and the second game at 20:00.
As normal, the final round of group games in each group took place at the same time.
The 16 teams were split into four groups of four, with the top two from each group progressing to the quarter-finals which began on July 20.
England were drawn in the same group as Austria, Norway and Northern Ireland who made their first appearance at a Women's Euros.
The semi-finals took place on July 26 and 27, with the final at Wembley Stadium on July 31.
Wednesday July 6
Group A: England 1-0 Austria (20:00, Old Trafford)
Beth Mead got the hosts off to a winning start as a first-half goal proved to be enough for England to beat Austria on the opening night. The atmosphere was “unbelievable” according to Mead.
Thursday July 7
Group A: Norway 4-1 Northern Ireland (20:00, Southampton)
Northern Ireland’s debut at a major tournament ended in a 4-1 defeat against an impressive Norway at St Mary’s.
Friday July 8
Group B: Spain 4-1 Finland (17:00, Milton Keynes)
Despite missing Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas and Jennifer Hermoso, Spain took a comfortable win over Finland in Milton Keynes.
Group B: Germany 4-0 Denmark (20:00, Brentford)
Eight-time European champions Germany hammered Denmark at the Brentford Community stadium. It was expected to be a close affair but Germany made a statement with a dominant performance.
Saturday July 9
Group C: Portugal 2-2 Switzerland (17:00, Leigh)
Portugal came back from two goals down to salvage a draw in a dramatic contest at Leigh Sports Village.
Group C: Netherlands 1-1 Sweden (20:00, Sheffield)
An entertaining draw between heavyweights the Netherlands and Sweden has been one of the best matches at Euro 2022, with nothing to separate them at Bramall Lane.
Sunday July 10
Group D: Belgium 1-1 Iceland (17:00, Manchester)
Belgium and Iceland had to settle for a point each in a match which included a saved penalty at Manchester City’s Academy Stadium.
Group D: France 5-1 Italy (20:00, Rotherham)
Monday July 11
Group A: Austria 2-0 Northern Ireland (17:00, Southampton)
Northern Ireland were knocked out of Euro 2022 following a 2-0 defeat to Austria. Goals either side of half time were enough for Irene Fuhrman’s side to keep their chances of reaching the knock-out stages alive.
Group A: England 8-0 Norway (20:00, Brighton & Hove)
England thrashed Norway 8-0 with a “thrilling performance” in Brighton, which set a new record for the most goals scored by any team in both the women’s and men’s European Championship. The result ensures the Lionesses top Group A.
Tuesday July 12
Group B: Denmark 1-0 Finland (17:00, Milton Keynes)
Denmark kept their hopes alive of reaching the knockout stages with a 1-0 victory over Finland. Parnille Harder’s second half goal made the difference.
Group B: Germany 2-0 Spain (20:00, Brentford)
Germany defeated Spain to secure top spot in Group B, meaning they will avoid a quarter-final tie with England. The eight-time champions are looking very strong going into the knockout stage.
Wednesday July 13
Group C: Sweden 2-1 Switzerland (17:00 Sheffield)
Teenage substitute Hanna Bennison scored a late winner for Sweden to earn their first victory of Euro 2022.
Group C: Netherlands 3-2 Portugal (20:00, Leigh)
An entertaining game at Leigh Sports Village saw defending champions the Netherlands survive a scare against Portugal to move top of Group C. The Dutch led 2-0, but were pegged back to 2-2 before Danielle van de Donk scored a brilliant winner.
Thursday July 14
Group D: Italy 1-1 Iceland (17:00, Manchester)
Italy's Valentina Bargamaschi cancelled out Karolina Lea Vilhjalmsdottir's superb volley to earn a draw at Manchester City's Academy Stadium.
Group D: France 2-1 Belgium (20:00, Rotherham)
France booked their place in the quarter-finals with victory over Belgium as Griedge Mbock Bathy and Kadidiatou Diani made the difference in Rotherham.
Friday July 15
Group A: England 5-0 Northern ireland (20:00, Southampton)
England charged into the knockout rounds with a big 5-0 win against Northern Ireland at St Mary’s.
Group A: Austria 1-0 Norway (20:00, Brighton & Hove)
Austria stunned Norway to reach the quarter-finals after Nicole Billa made the difference with her first-half effort.
Saturday July 16
Group B: Germany 3-0 Finland (20:00, Milton Keynes)
Germany kept their 100 percent win record at Euro 2022 with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Finland. Sophia Kleinherne, Alex Popp and Nicole Anyomi all got on the scoresheet.
Group B: Spain 1-0 Denmark (20:00, Brentford)
A late header from Marta Cardona secured three points for Spain meaning they play England in the Last 8.
Sunday July 17
Group C: Netherlands 4-1 Switzerland (17:00, Sheffield)
The Netherlands hit four past Switzerland in an entertaining affair at Bramall Lane and will play France in a clash of the heavyweights in the Last 8.
Group C: Sweden 5-0 Portugal (17:00, Leigh)
Sweden had little trouble overcoming Portugal to book their place in the quarter-finals by topping Group C.
Monday, July 18
Group D: Iceland 1-1 France (20:00, Rotherham)
A 1-1 draw for Iceland against France wasn’t enough to see them through as the other result in Group D saw them crash out of Euro 2022.
Group D: Italy 0-1 Belgium (20:00, Manchester)
Belgium progressed to the knockout stages thanks to a fine second-half strike from Tine De Caigny in a hard-fought match against Italy.

Quarter-final 1: England 2-1 Spain (20:00, Brighton & Hove)
England came back from a goal down to beat Spain in extra-time as Georgia Stanway’s stunning screamer sent the home crowd wild and kept the Lionesses dreams of winning Euro 2022 alive.
Thursday, July 21
Quarter-final 2: Germany 2-0 Austria (20:00, Brentford)
An enthralling match between at Brentford’s Community Stadium saw Germany battle past Austria as Lina Magull and Alexandra Popp made the difference.

Quarter-final 4: France 1-0 Netherlands (20:00, Rotherham)
France reached their first European Championship semi-finals thanks to Eve Perisset’s extra-time penalty which knocked defending champions the Netherlands out.
Tuesday, July 26
Semi-final 1: England 4-0 Sweden (20:00, Sheffield)
Sweden gave England a big scare early on with some eye-opening attacks, but Mead struck again in the first half, before a header from Lucy Bronze and a moment of brilliance from Russo put the Lionesses three in front, with Fran Kirby also finding the back of the net. A memorable night for women's football in England.

Semi-final 2: Germany 2-1 France (20:00, Milton Keynes)
Alexandra Popp's double saw Germany edge France in a tense game with plenty of chances for both sides. Popp's header in the 76th minute was enough for Germany to reach the final, where they will play England.

How are England performing?

England stunned Sweden to reach the final on a night which will only be bettered if they go on to win the tournament.
They thumped one of the best sides in the world 4-0 with Alessia Russo’s backheel goal grabbing the headlines.
Wiegman's side were seven minutes away from being knocked out of Euro 2022 until substitute Ella Toone scored an equaliser in the quarter-final against Spain.
Stanway sent the crowd in Brighton into raptures with a stunning strike to give England a 2-1 win to set up a last four tie against Sweden.
The Lionesses went into the knockout stages on confidence after scoring 14 goals in the group stage, beating Northern Ireland 5-0, Norway 8-0 and Austria 1-0.

What happened to Alexia Putellas?

Spain were one of the pre-tournament favourites, but were dealt a blow on the eve of Euro 2022 when captain Putellas twisted her knee during training and suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.
The Ballon d’Or winner was set to be one of the stars of Euro 2022, having inspired Barcelona to the Champions League win last year and an unbeaten league campaign last season.
