Metalurg Donetsk have appointed Dutchman Co Adriaanse as coach, the Ukrainian premier league club said on Wednesday.
Adriaanse replaces Spaniard Angel Alonso Herrera at the Donetsk side, who have always played second fiddle to their wealthier city rivals Shakhtar.
The 59-year-old Dutchman resigned as coach of Portuguese champions Porto in August because of a "rift in confidence" with the club's management board after guiding them to the title last season.
Adriaanse, who has also coached various Dutch clubs, including Ajax, AZ Alkmaar and Willem II Tilburg, will be the second active foreign manager in Ukraine's top flight alongside Romanian Mircea Lucescu at Shakhtar.
Alonso Herrera left Metalurg last week after taking them to eighth place in the 16-team premier league going into the winter break, in his first season in Donetsk.
