Highlights

90+4'

It's straight out of play and that's the whistle. Germany take their second 1-0 victory of the tournament - deserved or otherwise, that's three points.

90+3'

Free kick for Germany from the near corner of the 18 yard box. This will be the last play of the match.

90+2'

Lucia Garcia wins a corner as the ball comes off Doosoun in the box, Schult saves a shot at the goal and that's probably it for Spain.

90+1'

Three minutes of additional time to be played.

87'

Germany pile the pressure on Spain now and there's some good play in the box before the shot is taken. Good save by Panos.

83'

Lucia Garcia has a run into the box and there is no one there, a great oportunity but she passes to what appears to be an imaginary teammate. A terrible waste in the last 10 minutes.

80'

And a substitution for germany as Goessling comes off and Leupolz comes on.

78'

Putellas comes off now to be replaced by Bonmati for Spain.

73'

Spain have had 63% possession so far and 14 shots - but only 2 of those have been on target.

72'

Really frustrating for Spain who are working their socks off today. They're just lacking in the finish but the effort is all theirs.

67'

Hermoso takes a corner for Spain but it sails into the amrs of Schult who comes out of the goal to do the business.

66'

Meseguer is replaced by Guijarro for Spain.

65'

Another change for Germany as Magull replaces Oberdorf.

64'

Torrejon takes it but it's not good enough. Bam, into the defensive wall.

63'

Schweer brings down Lucia Garcia on the edge of the box. She earns herself a yellow card and it's a free kick to Spain.

62'

Spain's passing is getting sloppy now as the ball is given away to Popp in the midfield.

60'

She comes on and immediately fouls Daebritz.

60'

Caldentey is coming off now to be replaced by Lucia Garcia.

55'

Garcia is off, but the flag goes up, she's just offside.

50'

Good challenge by Dabritz in the midfield who gets the ball into the Spain box. Popp takes the shot but Panos saves.

47'

Spain are out of the traps quickly and they're bothering Germany again. Torrecilla shoots well over the bar.

46'

The whistle blows and we're off.

45'

A halftime substitution for Germany as Hendrich is comes off and Buehl comes on.

18:01

We're getting ready to kick off again now and the Macarena is ringing out around the stadium in Valenciennes.

45+2'

There's the whistle. We go into the halftime break 1-0 after a tense first half.

45+2'

The pressure is there from Spain, but the passing is suffering a bit now. They might regret not taking advantage of those early chances.

45+1'

We've two minutes of additional time to play here.

45'

Spain want to even the score before halftime and there's real pressure on the germans again now, but they can't keep possession.

42'

GOAL! It wasn't exactly slick, but it'll do. Germany take the lead as Dabritz pokes the ball in the net after the ball rebounds off the keeper and the Paredes can't can't quite get to it in time.

40'

Hermoso has looked good today, she's really bothering the German defense.

39'

The sun is shining in Valenciennes now. A goal kick for Panos.

33'

Spain have a penalty which flies into the box but the keeper looks like she just has a hand to it.

33'

Huth is back in the Spainish area but Panos sweeps the ball up. There are some pretty mega lulls in defense at both sides of the pitch today.

31'

Gwinn is on the counter attack and finds Huth in the box, but Paredes blocks it.

29'

The Spanish side are playing some bold, and also pretty decent long balls. Although in fairness, that one hasn't worked out for them. It's cleared by the keeper.

27'

Oberdorf shoots at the goal but the keeper sends the ball away. Popp has taken a tumble over Hegering. No foul by the Spanish side, there.

25'

Hang on, Garcia is down after a fairly nasty looking collision where she looks like she took a knock to the head. She remains down.

23'

So far Spain look pretty impressive. The passing is good, as is the pace, they're outplaying the Germans.

19'

Gwinn, the goalscorer in Germany's opening match has a shot now. She's a bit ambitious, firing from well outside the area and it's not good. Still some signs of life from the German side now.

18'

Germany find their way into the Spain area now and have their first chance of the game. It's fired at the goal but dealt with pretty easily by the keeper.

17'

Meseguer has a chance now as Spain continue to press the German side. She's also off-target.

15'

A squandered opportunity for Spain there as Garcia finds herself in the area with a fantastic ball from Hermosa. Schult is out of the goal but Garcia shoots wide.

13'

Spain have started brightly today. They're not sitting back, rather putting plenty of presure on the German team.

11'

The ball is played into the Germany box but it's just out of reach and Schult deals with it.

8'

Good ball through to Huth who makes herself available, but that's also shut down. Good defending by Spain.

7'

Garcia makes a run for it for Spain but gets shut down. Nonetheless, that's a pretty obvious defensive frailty for Germany exposed, early doors.

4'

I'm talking Biblical, by the way. Let's hope there's no repeat of yesterday's match between Chile and Sweden where proceedings had to be halted for a time.

3'

That meets with Spain's defensive wall and we've got some pretty serious rain pouring down now.

2'

Germany have a free kick just outside the area.

1'

And that's the whistle, we're off!

17:00

There are quite a few empty seats in the stadium in Valenciennes today as we prepare for kickoff.

16:55

And now it's time for the national anthems...

16:55

Meanwhile, Spain's victory over South Africa (which it's worth mentioning saw them benefit from two penalties) was their first ever win in a World Cup.

16:50

Germany are two-times World Cup Champions and unbeaten in their last 13 matches.

16:45

Germany beat China 1-0 while Spain saw off South Africa 3-1 in their opening fixtures. So both have three points, and if there is a win today one of the two will sail through to the next round. Spain currently top the group with a favourable goal difference over the German side.

16:39

Marsozsan is of course missing from today's Germany lineup having broken her toe in their opening match. She will no doubt be missed today.

16:38

Two changes for Spain as Losada and Sampdero drop back to the bench. Garcia, who was brought on as a sub at halftime in Spain’s opening match is promoted to starting XI, Meseguer is also brought on.

16:33

A few changes for Germany as Simon and Leupolz drop back to the bench while Morzsan is out of today’s squad all together.
