Any hopes for fans that Vivianne Miedema would be able to make a miracle recovery and play at the 2023 World Cup have been dashed with the Dutch superstar confirming that she will have no chance of playing at the World Cup. Miedema will instead continue her focus to make sure that she is at full fitness ahead of the new domestic season with Arsenal.

Arsenal and Dutch superstar Vivianne Miedema confirmed on Sunday that she won’t be able to play at the upcoming World Cup.
Miedema, 26, ruptured her ACL in December and said at the time that she didn’t think she was going to be able to make the finals in Australia and New Zealand.
However, there had been some hope from fans that she might be able to make it, but speaking to the BBC during the Manchester City v Arsenal match she shut down any chance of a return.
She did say she needed to be realistic with her recovery and admitted that it is hard not to be playing in the tournament.
"Recovery is going really well. It's slow but little steps," she said.
"Obviously I miss being out on the pitch with my team-mates but at least I'm here to support the girls.
"I'm just trying to enjoy the time where I don't have the pressure to play all the time."
On the possibility of making the World Cup: "No hopes. I'm going to miss the World Cup, which is hard. But I hope to be back ready for the start of next season. I need to be realistic."
Miedema had previously criticised reports that Visit Saudi were in contention to be a sponsor of the World Cup.
FIFA would later announce that Saudi Arabia's government tourism agency would not be a major sponsor of the World Cup.
