Edin Dzeko's first-half goal helped Bosnia hold 10-man France to a 1-1 draw in World Cup qualifying in Strasbourg. The Inter Milan striker surprisingly opened the scoring for the visitors in front of a sell-out crowd, but was also unfortunate to gift Antoine Griezmann an equaliser moments later. Bosnia looked the better side for parts of the game and ultimately it was a disappointing evening for France.
THREE minutes of added time and Bosnia are still pushing for a late winner.
- OffKylian MbappéFrance
- OnMoussa DiabyFrance
Pjanic's free-kick flies well over the bar. SUB! Diaby is on to make his international debut, taking the place of Mbappe.
FREE-KICK! Martial fouls Prevljak around 30 yards from goal and Pjanic will be tasked with trying to get Bosnia a shock winner.
MISS! Prevljak spins around Tchouameni and lets a shot go from inside the box, but he fires over the bar.
Martial runs with the ball down the left flank but he loses control of it and Bosnia have a goal-kick. Bosnia look good value for a point and perhaps could go on to nick the winner. France have looked well off the pace this evening and have certainly not been helped by Kounde's dismissal.
CHANCE! A ball into the box finds Dzeko who peels off Kimpembe and gets a shot away, but his volley goes awry from a tight angle.
Can France's new-look front line find a late goal? CHANCE! Pogba has his first look on goal in the game, but his shot cannons off Hadzikadunic for a France corner which is cleared away.
- Yellow cardAmir HadziahmetovicBosnia and Herzegovina
YELLOW! For Hadziahmetovic for a late tackle on Tchouameni. SUBS! For France, Benzema and Griezmann make way for Coman and Martial.
- OffErmedin DemirovicBosnia and Herzegovina
- OnSmail PrevljakBosnia and Herzegovina
Bosnia are beginning to play with more confidence and take advantage of their extra man as France legs begin to tire.
- OffErmedin DemirovicBosnia and Herzegovina
- OnSmail PrevljakBosnia and Herzegovina
SUBS! Prevljak is on for Demirovic and Cimirot makes way for Loncar.
Bosnia have a corner which Pjanic will take. His outswinger fails to beat the first man and is headed clear. Can the unfancied team come away with all three points against Les Bleus? Quite possibly, France have been reduced to half chances in this match.
Mbappe sprints into the box but he cannot find a teammate with his pass. Bosnia's defence are holding firm and France are really struggling to break them down.
- OffMateo SušicBosnia and Herzegovina
- OnBranimir CipeticBosnia and Herzegovina
SUB! Susic, who appeared to pick up a knock a few moments ago, comes off for Cipetic who is making his sixth cap this evening.
Translation: "2017 - Jules Koundé received the first red card for the France team in all competitions since June 13, 2017 (Varane against England). Sanction."
France are finding joy down the left flank with Digne getting the better of Susic on more than one occasion. The ball is fed to Dubois around 35-yards out and he fires well wide.
CLOSE! Digne's cross into the goalmouth is just missed by Mbappe. There's appeals from Mbappe and the France players for a penalty as he claims he was pushed over by Hadzikadunic, but Scharer is having none of it. It would have been an exceptionally harsh penalty should it have been awarded.
- OffSead KolašinacBosnia and Herzegovina
- OnEldar CivicBosnia and Herzegovina
Bosnia have a corner and Pjanic's ball in is headed clear by Pogba. The visitors will sense a real opportunity here and France will no doubt not want to commit as many men forward as they were before Kounde's red card.
- OffJordan VeretoutFrance
- OnLéo DuboisFrance
SUBS! Dubois is on for Veretout and Civic comes in for the injured Kolasinac.
- Red cardJules KoundéFrance
RED CARD! After the VAR review, Kounde has been sent off! It was a rough challenge and Kolasinac looked in some pain afterwards. The Sevilla defender has been sent off in only his third international cap. Kolasinac has hobbled off to the sideline with two medical staff.
YELLOW! Kolasinac does well to make a timely challenge on Mbappe before Kounde wipes the Arsenal defender out and is booked for his troubles. HANG ON! We've gone to a VAR review to see if it was worthy of a red...
- OffThomas LemarFrance
- OnAurélien TchouaméniFrance
France have looked sharper since their fortunate equaliser late on in the first half and they've started the better of the two teams after the break. Digne's cross to the far post is headed back by Kounde but Bosnia can clear.
- 2nd Half
SECOND HALF! We are back underway! France have made one change and it's an international debut for 21-year-old Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, who replaces Thomas Lemar.
- End of 1st Half
France were handed a scare when Dzeko gave Bosnia a shock lead, but Griezmann's fortunate equaliser means we are all square at the break. Keep it here for the second half!
ONE minute of added time at the end of this entertaining first half.
The game has opened up with France looking far more motivated after Bosnia took the shock lead through Dzeko. CLOSE! Griezmann tries to curl his shot from 20-yards out into the bottom corner, but it veers wide.
- GoalAntoine GriezmannFrance
GOAL!!! France have the quick-fire equaliser and Griezmann has been awarded it! We're back on level terms and this game has come to life!
GOAL?? Mbappe wins a corner for France as they seek an equaliser before the break. OFF THE LINE? The corner swung into the box is headed by Dzeko onto the back of Griezmann and towards goal before Sehic scoops it away! But it looks like it crossed the line! VAR is checking it...
- GoalEdin DzekoBosnia and Herzegovina
GOAL!!! Bosnia take the lead and it's their all-time highest goalscorer Edin Dzeko who has done it with his 60th goal in international football! Lemar casually gave the ball away right into the feet of Dzeko who charges towards Kimpembe before firing his left-footed strike into the bottom corner! Could we have a shock on our hands?
Dzeko is fouled by Varane and Bosnia have their eighth free-kick of the evening which is double what France have had. This one is 30-yards out and Pjanic will take it. GOOD SAVE! It's a powerful shot but it's on the goalkeeper's side and Lloris clutches the ball to his chest.
Mbappe's cross into the box takes a deflection and Sehic punches clear. Eventually Kimpembe whacks an audacious strike on goal from around 45-yards out, but it flies over the bar. It looked threatening for a moment!
Veretout is being spoken to by referee Scharer. He gives him what looks to be a final warning after putting in a strong challenge on Pjanic. The Bosnia free-kick into the box from Pjanic misses everyone and goes out for a goal-kick. His set-pieces haven't been the best so far as we go past the half hour mark.
- Yellow cardJordan VeretoutFrance
YELLOW! For Veretout on his France debut for a late, rash challenge on Demirovic.
Bosnia have a free-kick and Pjanic swings it in, forcing Benzema to head behind for the visitors' first corner of the evening. The Barcelona midfielder is on corner duty but his cross into the area comes to nothing.
OFF THE POST! Digne's driven pass into the box reaches Mbappe. He smashes his left-footed shot on goal from a very tight angle and he smacks it off the woodwork! The PSG forward is looking for his first international goal since scoring against Wales in a Euro 2020 warm-up friendly in June.
Bosnia are playing with a slightly higher line in an attempt to play the likes of Mbappe and Benzema offside. Bosnia have shown a bit of attacking intent at times but have not been able to fashion out a clear-cut chance. France, meanwhile, look a bit disjointed when they reach the edge of the Bosnia penalty area.
Mbappe on the left flank finds Griezmann on the edge of the box. He lays it off to Kounde who crosses into the area but Benzema cannot reach it. Eventually, the ball is worked back into the box and Bosnia clear their lines. France are applying heavy pressure right now.
Demirovic attempts to storm through the France backline, but his run fizzles out and Lloris can collect the loose ball.
Bosnia are starting to play with more energy and attacking endeavour, but Lloris has not had anything to worry about yet. Neither side have had a shot on target so far, with France enjoying 69 per cent possession.
CHANCE! Dzeko, in very little space on the edge of the box, curls a first-time effort harmlessly over the bar.
SHOT! A long ball up from Varane looking for Mbappe is cleared by Hadzikadunic but only to Benzema. His shot takes a deflection off the Bosnian, taking all power out of it, and Sehic can comfortably claim.
France are not quite clicking at the moment, but perhaps that is to be expected when the national team have not played together in over two months. Their goal has not been threatened at all, though.
France are still pressuring high up the pitch but Bosnia are holding firm for now. The visitors look content just to soak it all up for now.
France, as you might have expected, are dominating possession and are knocking the ball around under little pressure. Bosnia are sitting very deep already.
OFFSIDE! Benzema was sent clear through by Pogba but his close-range shot is saved by Sehic. It would not have counted anyway as he was well offside.
Lemar commits an early foul on Dzeko which the Inter striker wasn't too happy about, giving Pjanic the chance to swing a cross into the box. The cross finds Demirovic at the near post who stabs his attempt wide, but he was offside.
- 1st Half
KICK-OFF! We are underway! The referee this evening is Switzerland's Sandro Scharer who has already dished out 25 yellows and four reds in the five games he has refereed this season.
The teams are out onto the pitch at a boisterous Stade de la Meinau in Strasbourg! It's a sell-out crowd and kick-off is just moments away!
Bosnia will not be looking forward to face this front three. After kicking off the World Cup qualification campaign with a 1-1 draw against Ukraine, Les Bleus beat Kazakhstan 2-0 and Bosnia away 1-0 to ensure they sit in top spot on seven points.
In case you missed it last night, Antoine Griezmann, who starts this evening, has surprisingly rejoined Atletico Madrid on loan with an option to buy.
There are some standout names in the Bosnia team that Premier League fans will know all too well, including former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko and Arsenal's Sead Kolasinac. Barcelona midfielder Miralem Pjanic also starts.
France are in the building and there is Kylian Mbappe, who is seemingly destined to sign a pre-contract agreement with Real Madrid in January after a deadline day move failed to materialise.
