World Cup-winning Germany international coach Joachim Loew was named the FIFA Coach of the Year at the 2014 Ballon d'Or ceremony.
Mario Goetze's extra time winner helped Germany to a 1-0 win over Argentina in the World Cup final, but it was their 7-1 demolition of hosts Brazil that was arguably more impressive.
Loew saw off competition from Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone and Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti. Simeone guided Atletico to the Liga title, while Ancelotti ended Real's hunt for an elusive 10th Champions League crown.
Atletico stunned Real and Barcelona to take the Spanish top-flight title, almost capping a remarkable season with Champions League glory before their neighbours snatched the trophy away.
Wolfsburg's Ralf Kellerman won the equivalent award for the women's game.
