WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Emil Forsberg has been one of the key individuals in RB Leipzig's rise from second-tier club to heavyweights of German football. The Swedish 26-year-old is a creative wide player who likes to drift in-field and act almost like a No. 10.
Forsberg offered the main spark in attack for an otherwise workmanlike Swedish side during qualifying.

  • Age: 26
  • Club: RB Leipzig

PRE-MATCH CHATTER

Strengths: Forsberg is adept at drifting into central areas from his wide left position and exploiting the space between the lines. Shooting from range and picking out key passes are among Forsberg's top attributes.
Weaknesses: There have been hints of an attitude problem, with Forsberg reportedly pushing for a move and seemingly losing his edge at Leipzig.

IN-GAME REALITY

The first half largely passed Forsberg by, but he signalled his intent to get involved in the game more at the start of the second with a jink inside and a shot over the bar.
But other than the odd flash of quality there was little in this opening game to tempt potential buyers into tabling their bids.

EXPERT VIEW

Tobias Hlusiak - eurosport.de
Forsberg for sure was Leipzig's best player in their first campaign after being promoted two years ago. He made history when collecting his 22nd assist in a single season in May 2017. Taking that record from Kevin de Bruyne.
"After that, he thought Leipzig was slowly becoming 'too small of a club' for him. He flirted heavily with AC Milan last summer. After Leipzig didn’t let him go he didn’t play with the same drive, it appeared. That and some injuries kept him from playing another great Bundesliga-season.
"I think he is not ready to play in a big four/five club in England. Maybe one or two years of experience would help."

WHO SHOULD BUY HIM

Forsberg feels like an Everton sort of player, although Toffees fans will hope their club are aiming higher.
