Lewis Hamilton claimed pole position for the Bahrain Grand Prix with a scorching lap record to edge out Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg.

The world champion clocked 1:29.493, seven hundredths of a second faster than Rosberg.
Ferrari locked out the second row of the grid, but despite the Italian team looking competitive for much of the weekend so far, both Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen were half a second slower than the Mercedes.
Hamilton made a mess of his first hot lap in Q3, but delivered when it counted, bettering his team-mate by the tiniest of margins to claim his 51st career pole.
McLaren debutant Stoffel Vandoorne will start from 11th on the grid after outqualifying veteran team-mate Jenson Button, who was a disappointing 14th.
Hamilton was clearly delighted with the result, yelping over the team radio: "That was a sexy lap!"
