Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton took a record sixth pole position at the British Grand Prix, pipping championship rival Sebastian Vettel by 0.044 seconds.
The Ferrari driver currently leads the drivers' standings, but the Brit impressed a home crowd.
Vettel had edged the early exchanges in Q3, leading Hamilton by just 0.057 seconds.
Then the Mercedes driver came through with an impressively quick time to seize pole by an infinitesmal margin and push his rival down to second place on the front row.
Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen and Valtteri Bottas of Mercedes will start from the second row.
