France are kings of Europe
France cruised to a 31-23 win over Spain in the European Final on Sunday night. Nikola Karabatic and Daniel Narcisse lead the French offense. Spain earned their third European silver medal in as many tries.
After winning two world titles in 1995 and 2001 France has scaled their first European podium. Beating the Spanish was no small feat. The Iberians had what was considered the best attack of the tournament while France shine in defense.
Hot start for Spain
Spain started the match with the same swagger that saw them breeze past Denmark in the semi-finals. The momentum was in Spain's favour when they scored three straight goals in the 30th minute.
Jose Javier Hombrados Ibanez put in a brave effort but the Spanish keeper could not make up for a lack of defense from the world champions.
Gille red carded
Spain had a ray of hope when in the 50th minute Guillaume Gille was red carded for a hand to the face of Alberto Enterrios. The man advantage did not help Spain as French keeper Thierry Omeyer was brilliant.
