Ex-England and Great Britain star Lee, who coached the GB team at three Olympics and three World Championships, joins the BHA ranks as Performance Director.
Lee competed at the Atalanta 1996 and Barcelona 1992 Games as a player, and as coach led the men's team from a ranking of 11th in the world to fourth.
He moves across from a position in football, as deputy director of the Premier League's Elite Coach Apprenticeship Scheme, as well as being a coach developer with England volleyball.
Joining Lee on the board is Allan Robson, the former chief executive of Northampton Saints RFC and board member of Premiership Rugby, who joins as Marketing and Commercial Director.
BHA Chairman Paul Bray said: "We are delighted to welcome two directors with such a wealth of experience as Jason and Allan.
"Jason brings a deep understanding of performance programmes and how to get the best out of elite structures.
"With GB hockey he took the team to a top four world ranking at a time when their budget was being cut.
"He arrives at the BHA with a clear appreciation of the challenges that we face.
"Allan has spent many years working in the very competitive commercial environment in the sports sector and brings a solid understanding of what is required for British Handball to raise its profile and secure funding from various sources.
"He will also drive forward the association's plans for hosting future events."
