Hoffman then was acquired by the Florida Panthers only a
few hours later.
Hoffman was shipped out along with ECHL defenseman Cody Donaghey and Ottawa's
fifth-round choice in the 2020 draft. The Sharks in return gave up a
sixth-round pick in 2020, defenseman Julius Bergman and forward Mikkel
Boedker.
About two hours later, the Panthers announced they acquired Hoffman from the
Sharks along with a seventh-round pick for Florida's picks in the second,
fourth and fifth rounds in 2018.
On the basis of online harassment, Melinda Karlsson filed an order of
protection against Monika Caryk, Hoffman's fiancee, on May 4.
--The Los Angeles Kings plan to extend defenseman Drew Doughty this offseason
before he enters the final year of his contract, general manager Rob Blake
said.
Blake added that the team will turn its attention to negotiations with the
former Norris Trophy winner after this weekend's draft. The Kings can begin
discussing an extension with Doughty, who has played seven years of an
eight-year deal he signed in September of 2011, on July 1.
Doughty, 28, posted a career-high 60 points (10 goals, 50 assists) last season
and is a Norris Trophy finalist. He previously won the award in 2015-16, a
year after being the runner-up. This year's winner will be announced Wednesday
night at the NHL awards show in Las Vegas.
--In response to a report that the Columbus Blue Jackets are "testing the
market" for left wing Artemi Panarin, general manager Jarmo Kekalainen issued
a statement saying the team wants Panarin to "be a Blue Jacket for many
years."
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported that Panarin -- who is entering the
final year of his contract -- has told the team he is not willing to consider
an extension "at this time," prompting Columbus to test the market for the
26-year-old.
In his first year in Columbus, Panarin led the Jackets in points (82), goals
(27) and assists (55) in the regular season and in assists (five) and points
(seven) in six postseason games. The Blue Jackets lost to the eventual Stanley
Cup champion Washington Capitals in the first round.
