Following on from her silver medal at the Cancun Grand Prix and bronze at the Ekaterinburg Grand Slam earlier this year, Livesey was seeded eighth heading into the worlds, and received a bye into the second round.
There she defeated Poland's Karolina Talach, before winning her round of 16 bout with Gankhaich Bold of Mongolia in the golden score.
But she was forced into the repechage final after defeat to Olympic, World and European champion Tina Trstenjak of Slovenia in the quarter-finals, Germany's Martyna Trajdos her opponent on the mat there.
Trajdos' World No.4 status didn't faze Livesey though, taking the contest into golden score, only to be thrown for ippon.
"I had a really good day to start but to finish it like that wasn't what I planned," she said.
"Being so close probably hurts a bit more than going out straightaway. It's been a good and bad day, I took some positives from it.
"To be honest, I wasn't very nervous, I thought of it as a Grand Prix or a Grand Slam.
"I felt good going out there today."
