The 30-year-old was a bronze medallist in Brazil, and has already pledged her determination to battle for Tokyo 2020 in three years' time, keen to take her place in the next Games.
The first step on that journey began in excellent style for the Scot on Sunday with silver in the women's -70kg category, missing out to Marie-Eve Gahie in the final.
Both judoka were looking to score big but in the end it was the world No.5 who took the victory as she threw Conway for ippon.
That came after the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth bronze medallist had defeated fellow Brit Gemma Howell in the semi-finals, with the nezawa winning the day as she forced her compatriot to tap out.
"Coming away with a silver medal from Bucharest," Conway tweeted. "First comp back since the Games.
"Couldn't be happier. Well I could be. Gold would have been nice."
But it wasn't all bad news for Howell, with the 26-year-old going on to finish on the podium after victory over Italy's Alice Bellandi.
The two had previously competed once before in the Oberwart European Open in February, with Howell going on to make the most of a poor attack from her opponent to secure the win as she did in the last meeting.
The attentions of both Conway and Howell will soon turn towards this year's World Judo Championships, due to take place in Budapest, Hungary, from August 28 to September 3.
