Aprilia duo Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Vinales were quickest in FP2 for the Spanish Grand Prix on Friday.
The session at Jerez gave riders an hour to practise ahead of the weekend’s race, following FP1 where Dani Pedrosa had been quickest.
In the second runout, Pedrosa was third quickest, while Francesco Bagnaia - last year’s winner - Fabio Quartararo and current campaign leader Marco Bezzecchi all finished outside the top 10.
That could lead to a competitive qualifying on Saturday morning in the first session as big names attempt to put right their early struggles having failed to go directly into Q2.
Marc Marquez’s injury replacement Iker Lecuona struggled throughout and finished slowest after suffering a crash early into the session, which brought out a red flag.
Espargaro snatched top spot by just 0.002 seconds from his stable mate, with Jack Miller third in the session and fifth on the combined times.
FP3 and qualifying take place from Saturday at 09:00 UK time on BT Sport, with the sprint at 14:00.
The main race itself is on Sunday at 14:00.
