Ken Block: American motorsport star and YouTuber dies aged 55 after snowmobile accident in Utah

American motorsport legend Ken Block has died aged 55 following a snowmobile accident in Utah. Block made his name in events such as Rally America and Global Rallycross, but it was perhaps in later years where he became most well-known following the popularity of his 'Gymkhana' series on YouTube, in which he took part in various racing stunts. He also co-founded the DC Shoes company.
Ken Block, the American motorsport star and YouTuber, has died aged 55 following a snowmobile accident in Utah.
According to a statement released by the local sheriff's office, Block had been attempting to ride the vehicle up a steep slope in Wasatch County, before it fell back on top of him.
Block was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries.
Tributes have poured in for Block from those in the world of motorsport and beyond.
British F1 world champion from 2009 Jenson Button wrote: "In shock at the passing of Ken Block.
"Such a talent that did so much for our sport. He was a true visionary with his own unique style and infectious smile.
"Our sport lost one of the best today but more importantly a great man."
British Olympic cycling legend Chris Hoy was another to pay tribute to the rally driver.
"Shocked and devastated to hear the news this morning," he wrote.
"Can’t believe it. Sending love to his family."
Block competed in events such as Rally America and Global Rallycross during his motorsport career, but it was perhaps later in life that he became most well-known, with his 'Gymkhana' YouTube series - in which Block performed a series of racing stunts - generating millions of views.
Block was also heavily involved in business, co-founding the DC Shoes company and owning Hoonigan Industries.
Block is survived by his wife Lucy and three children.
