Campani hits back to claim race two win at Mugello

The young Italian driver edged out his brother Maurizio to claim the win, while race one winner Niklas Lilja had to settle for third.

Despite losing out to Campani, Swede Lilja retains top spot in the overall standings at the end of the weekend in Tuscany, even if his Italian rival closed the gap a little in second.

Despite a cloudy morning at the Italian circuit, race two started in bright sunshine. And from lights out, the battle between poleman Lilja and Emanuele Moncini was fierce, with the Campani brothers close behind in third (Alex) and fourth (Maurizio).

After three laps Moncini took the lead, while Lilja and Maurizio Campani lost some ground. Alex was firmly second, while the battle for the third place raged between Lilja, Luca Anselmi and Manuel Buffoli.

Alex Campani and Lilja then passed Moncini, while Anselmi entered the fight for the lead.

Two laps from the end, however, Anselmi went off the track. In the meantime Maurizio Campani secured second place, with Lilja finishing third.

The next round of the National ACI/CSAI Abarth Selenia Trophy Italy will take place on September 6 and 7 at Varano de' Melegari.
