Rydzek and teammate Fabian Riessle were left to battle it out in the closing stages on the skis but it was the former who came out on top by 1.5 second, with Eric Frenzel claiming the final podium position, 8.7 seconds back, to complete a clean sweep of the medals for Germany.
Frenzel had reigned supreme in the ski jumping phase of the event with his impressive effort of 100.5 metres giving him 138.9 points and a lead of two seconds over local hero Mario Seidl, who recorded 99.5 metres.
Rydzek continued to put in an improved performance on the hill, registering 97 metres for the intermediate third position, ten seconds behind his German teammate. The race was expected to be a close affair but seven athletes broke away with Frenzel and Seidl reeled in, leaving Rydzek and Riessle to decide victory for themselves on the last lap. Teammate Vinzenz Geiger skied strongly to record a career-best fourth and achieve the first German quadruple since 1987. Rydzek's third victory of the season moves him onto 430 points, with Frenzel second on 354 and Riessle third on 262. Sportsbeat 2016
