The Norwegian pair, who were part of the team which came second in Pyeongchang in the 4x5km, won by the narrowest of margins as they finished 0.5 seconds ahead of two German duos.
Schmid and Graabak led after the ski jumping phase and their sixth-fastest time in the cross country was just enough to hold off their pursuers, as they achieved an overall time of 34:30.9.
The German pairs, Johannes Rydzek with Vinzenz Geiger and Eric Frenzel with Fabian Riessle, who made up the Olympic gold medallists in the 4x5km last year, fell just short.
Rydzek and Geiger were second across the line in the cross country, closely followed by their compatriots who finished in 33:53.4.
The result leaves Norway leading the Nations Cup standings, with their 2477 points bettering rivals Germany (2224), although both are well clear of Austria (1754) in third.
